  1. Looking for a set of alloys to go on a Z31 (1987). Thanks
  2. Problem solved! Thankfully after a brief investigation by a local suspension specialist, the assembly of the suspension damper had not been correctly fitted. Basically a washer missing from below the mounting plate. Although there was no movement side to side on the MOT testing ramp. Once the damper was disconnected from the bottom, it was very obvious it was up and down motion.
  3. This is all great info, thanks. From what i can see, every bushing has been replaced with the hardened poly versions. Perhaps there could be something that is still original?? How are the diff's mounted out of interested, i thought they were affixed straight onto the body.
  4. Thanks for clearing that up!
  5. If and when the issue is Z31 specific, I’d ask somewhere else. I know the Z32 owners outweigh the 31 on here but I have received helpful responses from most posts about it. Cheers
  6. I had the car up on axle stands all afternoon yesterday after an unsuccessful investigation into the knocking on my Z31. It occurs when driving over rough terrain, thankfully I live in Gloucestershire, so lots of shitty roads to test out. A mechanic who I have known for some time, took it for a drive on Friday and heard the knocking. He said it certainly sounded like suspension. Unfortunately, up in the air, he couldn’t find anything. His ramps simulate some movement, he can rock the car side to side a little turn the wheels etc. Nothing seemed out of place or loose. Back to my investigations…I raised the car and tried to move anything that was a joint. The entire car has been poly bushed, which does make the car overall stiffer but all assemblies appear to have been put back as they should be. All suspension is aftermarket, with no movement in either top or bottom. The only thing I did find although it’s doubtful it would cause any knocking, is the brake discs. Can someone confirm to me what if anything, should be in these thread holes? Anytime I've removed a wheel, the is a countersunk hole in the disc to affix to the hub, usually just one. Thanks
  7. After a few more days of driving it, the axle appears to be fine, sadly this isn't the issue causing the knocking, as it is still there. I've had another mechanic on Friday have it up on the ramps after test driving it, he heard the knocking...he said suspension. When we had it on the ramps, everything appears to be solid, he could come up with anything. The search continues!
  8. No problem bud, thanks for replying. ;)
  9. Mine is the slim 300ZX panel but I was after the panel that fills in the area of the number plate. Is that something you have?
  10. Good shout...I have seen other variations though. I'm starting to think they were all factory.
  11. No joke. He meant welding the cast to the shaft…no more popping out. I won’t be doing the job myself and yeah I will be checking for damage where I can. When you mention elsewhere in the assembly, the shaft only assembles with this clip, does it not?
  12. The age old Z problem as it seems, vibrations! Since picking up the Z31 last Tuesday, it’s becoming apparent it does vibrate, almost as much as my Z32! Except this one has the benefit of no buckled alloys and a seemingly intact centre prop bearing. Tyre pressures running by the book, 28 fronts, 36 rears. (I haven’t had the wheels balanced since acquiring the car, although it looks like all weights are still present). Is the prop shaft in two parts or do you count the second knuckle joint as a third part? What steps can I take to ensure I am running with the least amount of vibrations?
  13. Quick update, so hopefully issue will be resolved. Mike at MJP is sending me out a clip (breaking the bank at £1.75p) and I’ll fit that asap. Jimmer at Powerzed said weld the thing up! That would certainly ensure it wouldn’t pop out again!
  14. I hadn’t actually thought of the dirt aspect to be honest. It sounds like you don’t have a garage either? I am looking to buy a house, my first house, but trying to find one with a garage with my budget isn’t looking good. I guess you have to make a decision when to clean and cover the car because if you go out in the shitty weather, you’d have to try and get it clean again before throwing the cover over. What material is on the inside of the cover you have?
  15. I remember seeing a post on retro rides once about car covers, I remember a guy who had a Porsche 944 and had a quarter cover. So basically a cover that just covers roof and windows etc. Due to the fact It kept moisture in and around the top half of the car, after sometime, the paint was ruined, not to mention the scratching from the plastic material. I imagine that was just a cheap cover and the material didn’t help matters. For those who can’t afford to have a garage, are there options for covers, fabric or otherwise, that would protect and preserve a vehicle? I’d prefer my Z to be out of the harshest conditions, so I’m willing to spend a reasonable amount on a decent solution.
  16. Ok that's helpful info, thanks. So if it is this clip that's the issue, where would I go to source one? Thanks
  17. I took my newly acquired Z31 to my local mechanic to identify what had been knocking underneath the car. It sounded like the offset rear shocker was gone or going. We put it up on the ramp and took a look. Underneath the car is very good, all newly poly bushed and new suspension all round. When we got to the diff, we had a look for play and the right hand side axle seemed to be disconnected from the diff. Sure enough when moved by hand, the assembly came away. With a short sharp push and with a satisfying clunk, the axle went back in. This was the source of the knocking. By hand you could not pull this away again. Now I'm not familiar with this assembly, I've changed a CV joint before but this is the mating part into the diff. He said that when some work had been carried out before, it seems someone had not put this back as it should be. There is a 'C' clip or similar that should hold that in place when fitted. Not my assembly but the green part of the shaft is the shaft I'm referring to... Ok, now for my questions. Is this a more serious problem and i should have this looked at asap? I don't think this resolved the issue as I'm sure the knocking has come back. Meaning it may have popped out again. Secondly, what exactly does hold this together and what is the process of strip down and replacing. Has this potentially done permanent damage? I can't see how the axel comes out like this without causing some real issue, but it looked to be in good condition. Any advice or info on this would be appreciated, i don't want to drive the car right now. Thanks
  18. I thought mine looked pretty good, nothing over the top... I'd like a square one on the front.
  19. Does anyone know where I can find the rear light panels....like the ones seen here which fill the centre part of the car 'Turbo & 300zx'
  20. Hi guys, My Z32 had a custom 300ZX number plate border on it, I would like one on my Z31 but no idea where to go. Anyone got a link or know somewhere who would make these?
  21. I guess my concern was in regards work carried out on the afterwards. Does a proper underseal cover components or assemblies that may have to be worked on? Apologies if this is a daft questions I just imaged a car covered underneath would mask certain things.
  22. Pretty much as per the title. I guess the benefits are sealed underneath against moisture etc, but are there any negative aspects of this process?
  23. The alarm fob for the Z31 seemed a bit flat and wouldn’t arm the alarm. I changed the battery from the spare fob and the light was much brighter. It armed it straight away, I tried it a couple times then armed it and went inside for the evening. I came out this morning and it wouldn’t disarm. I had to unlock the car, the alarm went off and the fob wouldn’t work. Eventually it did but that doesn’t seemed right. Why would it lose ‘sync’ so to speak over night?
  24. Some of you may or may not have seen I put my Z32 up for sale a couple of weeks back. It wasn’t perfect but all round a great car, both the spoiler and bumper needed some cosmetic attention but I couldn’t see myself investing in the car. I will be sad to see it go this week but hopefully someone will take it further than I could. Yesterday, after a couple hundred miles of travel, I picked up my first Z31… I think she needs a pair of rear shockers on the back, one on the offside rear is knackered. Where would I go looking for spares for the car, I know they are quite common in the US, just wondering if there is a preferred site.
  25. Brought to the UK in 2007 this low mileage car comes with a lot of history and documents to show import details. MOT history and service history present but not 100%. The car comes with almost all original parts with only the front bumper (replaced with twin turbo version) and scorpion exhaust rear sections being modified parts. I have just had fitted a set of Nissan OEM alloys with a set of new rubber. Photos shown below show the car with previous alloys (Now sold). The car drives well and benefits from a full set of new rubber. Marshall Matrac on the front, TOYO on the rear. Good points: 4 new tyres, good clean complete interior minus original stereo. Clean engine bay. No modifications to engine. Targa roof bags and panels. Original tool kit. Rust free arches and undercarriage. Original Fairlady floor mats. Bad points: Spoiler could do with a respray. Front bumper could also do with a respray. Boot struts fail. A good all round Z with minor imperfections to the body, rust free, great engine and low miles. I have a set of Iridium NGK plugs to go in the car, the oil and air filter was changed around 200 miles ago. First service & health check was performed by Jimmer at Power Zed, he believed this to be a good car and we changed the oil when purchased. Mileage: 57,500 MOT: 30th Aug 2016 V5: Present £3500 or very nearest offer.
