Hello from Bedfordshire
* UPDATE * It turned out to be a bad balancing job after all! We had the engine back out to replace just about everything that had been upgraded by the previous owner that hadn’t blown and the seals had gone on both turbos because it turns out that the guys that did the balancing didn’t have the facility to balance them over 22,000rpm!!! They insist they didn’t rip us off but we had them rebuilt again and balanced to 250,000rpm by a reputable engineering firm and, touch wood, now we’ve finally run the rebuilt engine in, we haven’t noticed a single puff of blue grey or any coloured smoke at running temperature. We did spend a couple of days fault finding what we thought was an electrical problem with the HICAS as the steering kept getting heavy over 15mph and the rear wheels were steering under acceleration but it turned out to be a grounding problem through the engine management adapter we had to plug in the laptop! Unplugged it and the power steering came back and the HICAS stopped trying to kill us. We just got the 4 wheel alignment sorted yet again because the guys who did it 500 miles ago did not get it right so we’re looking at another set of tires, not that we’ll ever get Pirelli P Zeros again because they don’t like the cold weather in the UK or Denmark. Now to the point of my post;- - Does anyone have any recommendations for the long anticipated remapping ceremony?

**UPDATE** And advice request of course! So the above smoking issue was resolved quite easily with the application of a bottle of stop-leak, like almost instantly resolved. Got car to temp and applied stop-leak and left at idle for half hour and literally no more smoking for the last few months! To be fair she only gets driven when my brother is home from Denmark as I'm too paranoid I'll ditch her again! But problem solved all the same. Until last weekend! My brother drives her on the Friday and the Saturday and when we start her up on the Sunday morning she splutters and belches a huge plume of blue then black and then dirty grey smoke and chases at idle and once up to temp coughs up lots of black and blue when poking throttle. On road she just hesitates constantly until you ease off throttle and allow the engine to pick up really slowly. We've not had chance to investigate properly but Initial thoughts are engine out and investigate. Any thoughts would be appreciated of course but if there's anything but the valve stems leaking the lump's coming out anyway

Definitely blue smoke that's why I'm thinking valve stems. Just found out we've got a boost leak so much to do now!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Turbo failure discussion
Just had the stock t25s refurbed with t28 compressors and thought the seals had gone pretty much straight away (3k miles) but we haven't found any oil in the plenums so hoping its stem seals. Haven't had her remapped yet so so far £800 for refurb and balancing probably another £400 for remap(?). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No oil in plenum so I'm not sure it is the turbo seals? If it's the compressor side seal that's gone we'd have oil in the plenum surely and they're clean as a whistle. If the leak is on exhaust side we'd have grey smoke not blue right? Hopefully head gasket or stem seals? Maybe I'm clutching at straws? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh I'm not blaming the zed, she's too pretty! But from what I've heard they are particular about their turbo seals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Certainly did, we thought they'd done a good job too. I'm guessing it's a common problem with the 300? We've met a couple of enthusiasts who just live with the smoke! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm guessing it's the turbo oil seals, blue smoke on boost. The car did similar with original turbos, then we rebuilt and all was fine and after 3k miles she's smoking again. We worked out she burns 1ml of oil per mile with new seals all round but hasn't smoked like this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

T28s sadly, original shells obviously, but upgraded compressors, not 100% sure which seals are used as we didn't do the turbo refurb ourselves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hello from Bedfordshire
My brother and I picked up a 1993 2+2 twin turbo a couple of years ago from a non mechanical previous owner who had forgotten to replace the engine oil after emptying the running-in oil after professional rebuild! His loss! Bottom end gone, engine re-rebuilt, turbos upgraded to T28 hybrids, suspension completely overhauld (Japspeed fully adjustable all round), respray after I ditched it ? and fibreglass front end too. cid:F2FD92DD-ED4B-4336-8386-474622DCEDE4 cid:C90493C0-99DB-48C1-9813-C1F99137C099 cid:D110CE1B-64AB-4918-9601-1FBADD0D6420 cid:8234CAA9-E455-4E0E-9EC7-109794F02B27 Many questions, the main one being;- why do turbo seals leak so easily on this bloody car!!??!!
