  1. Thanks guys, I think that may be my best option. I think I agree with your comment regards to getting it seen to JeffTT. Thanks again,
  2. Thanks for that Old Zed. I should follow up that I actually believe this problem may have always been present since buying the car, so I'm not 100% sure on what power to expect from it. When revving the engine in neutral I do notice its not quite as smooth as I might otherwise expect, despite its age etc. Thanks for that though I'll chase down the issue and report back. Cheers,
  3. Hi guys, I've noticed quite recently my Z has a very slight vibration on the right side, which you can see from the wing mirror shaking, which on the left hand side it isn't. I have since found out that there is a slight smoke coming out of the right exhaust pipe, with nothing out the left. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm wondering whether its an injector not firing. Any help on this would be massively appreciated. Thanks again guys! Phil
  4. Thanks again for this guys! I'll update when done!
  5. Hey guys, So digging this back up after a break...I'm now looking to do the swap in early October and I have a few questions I'm hoping I can get some pointers on. As a reminder, I'm looking to swap the auto transmission in my 1990 2+2 JDM Fairlady 300ZX to a 5spd. I have managed to acquire about 70% of the parts and now just getting the rest before the swap. I have got hold of a NA transmission and driveshaft. Will these work within my TT? I have been told before that the NA and TT gearboxes are pretty much the same (albeit with some dimensional differences which I'm looking to work around by spacer plates and boring out the inside using grinders etc.). I'm more interested that the transmission in the NA is capable of taking up to say 350 BHP from the TT. Also, and perhaps more importantly, I have a NA driveshaft. However, if I am packing out my transmission to fit the TT body/flywheel, will this affect the length of the driveshaft I need to install? Basically...will the NA driveshaft fit my TT with a packed out NA transmission? Can the swap be done without pulling the engine? I have read that the clutch hydraulic lines are difficult to install correctly with the engine in as they run out of the master cylinder behind the engine. Anyone done the swap without having to lift the engine? i don't really have the capacity to do an engine pull so looking to avoid if at all possible. Also, the transmission oil cooler line - I have heard that this has to be fabricated for the Fairlady JDM to UK swap. Anyone know of anyone I can speak to about getting one made? Or whether it's actually required? I have heard folk say it's not really needed. Anyone able to shed any light on this at all? Lastly, if anyone has any pointers going into this, and any little tricks they learnt or people I can speak to for help and advice it would be massively appreciated. Especially tools required... Great community on this site, and thanks again for taking the time to read :) All the best! Phil.
  6. Hi all, Looking to perform an auto to 5spd conversion for a JDM 2+2 TT Fairlady (1990) and I'm in the market for parts. I'm particularly interested in a driveshaft if anyone has one for sale in good condition. I think I only require the front end but will take the full thing if sold as such. I have a few parts already, but I'm interested in any parts for the swap. Thanks for the interest, stay classy!
  7. Cheers guys, I'll PM now.
  8. Hey guys, Just letting you know I've subscribed as a new member. Paid using direct bank transfer for £20. I'll PM when I have privileges with my info. Thanks again for the mad efforts organising all this! :)
  9. Wow cheers fellas. .....a days work....I would be pretty happy as if it goes that smoothly. Thanks for the heads up re the cooler lines. Its this kind of thing I don't want to catch too late. I'll get harvesting. Thanks again!
  10. Brilliant cheers guys. I'd love to get the 98+ over a heavily used and older 5spd, but cost is going to rule that out probably. I'll try hope to find a used 98+ for a decent rate I guess. Thanks for the response, that's a great help!
  11. Hey, I'm looking to swap out the automatic transmission of my JDM 300ZX (1990 2+2 TT) and replace with a 5spd, and I have what I imagine is a pretty basic question but one I want to get right. Is there any difference between a UK spec 5spd transmission and a JDM one? I don't want to buy a new tranny and have it not fit or something when I come to install it. As an aside, if anyone has done this conversion themselves and has any advice to offer I would be more than happy to hear it, I'd be grateful! Thanks for looking :)
  12. Who was driving the white 300ZX in Hornsea on Saturday morning? Around midday, I noticed the 300ZX.co.uk stickers on the rear sides. Nice car!
  13. Haha! Thanks for the advice lonezedder. I'll give it a shot as described. With it being bubbled slightly I'm hoping its a little easier. Cheers!
  14. Wicked, I'll give it a go and feedback. Cheers groover
  15. Hey, I have a Jap import and it has this film. Unluckily for me the film has bubbled too. Has anyone had a go at removing it yet? I want to get rid as its tinted slightly as markstevens says, and with it being bubbled its just a mess. Cheers,
  16. Cheers guys!
  17. Hey all! I'm new to the forum and the Z world in general, after having only just bought one last month. I've wanted one for a long time now and finally managed to get my hands on a 1990 TT AT Fairlady import. I wanted a little bit of a project car so the AT will one day be coming out when the money is good and the knowledge base is there, and replacing with the 5sp. I'm keen to restore the car to the Fairlady standard rather than modify it too heavily, and any help in the coming months/years......decades would be most appreciated! The car is cosmetically in great condition, and the engine seems to run great, especially considering the age. There are so many unknowns I'm sure I'll be bound to run into a host of problems unseen, but more work is more time with the Z and that ain't bad at all ha. I'll try post some pics up and keep everyone updated as to my progress. Thanks in advance, and I look forward to problem solving with the best. :) Phil
