my zeds has rust nowhere, its the fookin engine thats the problem :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

at last final decision... im gonna rebuild my whole engine for a more powerful than standard engine. the head and tubs need replacing. its a 1990 manual in black with leather interior where do i start. what i want to do. 1 replace injectors with 780cc 2 replace tubs with more powerful ones blitz ecu 3 ported heads? (need advice ) 4 new gaskets all round neoprene vacuum hoses (shall i bore out cylinders in which case i will need new pistons, rings etc) what about cam angle sensor? macca whats my options... the way i see it if im gonna pay for a new engine (£1000 min) might as well spend it on a rebuild. you seem to be the expert on engine rebuilds. very informative technical advice required and in order of steps and places where i might acquire the things i need please your help is very much appreciated. everybody put your pennys worth in all comments welcome. :bow: :bow:

Doing this my self at the minute, but TBH if you're not going to do the work yourself, then it's going to be very expensive. It's by no means a straightforward swap. Having said that it will still cost less than a full VG build up including manifolds, intercoolers etc. It's horses for courses really and depends what you want from your car. If you want numbers to impress people with and bragging rights down the pub, then stick to the turbo. If you want a car that drives well and has that immediate throttle response and linearity that a turdo engine can just never have, then go for the V8. Fuel consuption won't increase either. The VH45 is lighter, and NA engines need less fuel for the same air flow than turbos (ratio is about 4.7/5.7 from memory). whats it gonna cost? rough figures if i have it done at a garage?

intro: my engine is goosed and you may have seen my request for an engine in the items for sale section. i've recently heard of the VH45DE engine which can can be used as a replacement.. ive looked up this engine on the internet and have found out that it is normally aspirated and that the engine is not available in a turbocharged version but can be supercharged. the engine itself is 4.5litres V8 unit which provides a dramatic increase in the torque as compared to the VG30DE counterpart. here is my dilema: i) the engine will provide endless amount of torque but is it really justified as a replacement for the VG30DETT engine as both engine provide the same amount of BHP as standard ii) Both can be uprated to give a better performance but are the cost of uprating the engine output simmilar? e.g if i wanted to increase the Bhp to 550 i would need bigger injectors, air intake, better tubs possible new pistons in the VG30DETT engine but how would that compare to the VH45DE? iii) if the VH45DE is a superior engine to the VG30DETT then why is it cheaper on ebay? iv) most importantly what is the process required to place a VH45DE engine into a J Spec twin turbo as far as labour costs go and what would i need to change eg gearbox (mine is manual) this question shoul be a good one for the more mechanically mindedd. and one more thing would it increase the fuel consumption? cos the weight to power ratio decreases hence i would think the fuel consumption would go down....and before you say anything I dont want to drive a Ford Fiesta :D .. im not worried about fuel as such but just a thaught :duffer: thanx for all your responses (I Hope) :bow: :bow: :bow:

Hi there all zx forum members i need some expert advice as you probably know im new to the zed experience and have bought a 300zx tt it had all sorts of problemswhich have been resolved by way of totally rebuilding the engine.now my worry is with the turbos..........I want to replace them with stock turbos but the prices are sky high it seems that i have to look for alternativr turbos. on the American ebay ive seen some t28 tubs off a nissan skyline (a distant cousin of the zx twice detached). What would be your advice? (i) will the turbos be too powerful for an unmodified engine albeit rebuilt. (ii) will I have probs fitting them? (iii) is there an alternative (iv) does any one have ant tubs for sale that they may want to sell for a cheap price? im stuck and i realllllly want to drive the beast.

i will start going mate once by babys on the road with full engine rebuild.

yes mate its a manual. looks like knight rider except for the fact there isnt an annoying ba***rd always talking to you all the time most of the time its a mate on the passanger seat. nice quote "i asked barcaly card....." big LOLs
