Unfortunately stereotypes can't be joked with, neither can anything to do with religion etc. It all falls under racism these days. Plus people are brought up differently. The generation before are much more liberal with there views because they see no wrong in what they're saying in fact if you look back to some of the comedy shows in the 70s the stuff they got away with shocks me. Either way if you see it as racist or a harmless joke is up to the reader.
