bmw 840
You're right, I was getting a little mixed up between the 850 and 840, it's the early 4 litre engine that had the problems. After 96 (I think) they changed the engine to the 4.4 V8 with different sleeves.

bmw 840
Just noticed it's an 840. All the above still applies tho.

bmw 840
Engine wise the 850 is the same as the 750 only the early ones suffered from the nikasil problem and if it's got over 100k on the clock it's either had a new engine or it's safe to say it'll go on for another 100k. If the idle is not silky smooth walk away, you should be able to stand a pound coin on its side on the engine and it will not fall over even if you rev it a bit. Steering boxes and all the linkages are another thing to watch out for, the steering box alone is over £1000. And make sure everything electrical works too.

yellow zeds
That pearl yellow on ebay is my old one. I wouldn't touch it unless he's replaced the gearbox and sorted the water pipes at the back of the engine. Its also had a not so good respray that is a couple of different colours around the car.

mcquires car tech polish
Well Zymol is supposed to last longer on the car than the cheaper versions so rather than polishing say bi-weekly it's more like bi-monthly so it should last a lot longer and therefore in the long run is good value for money. There is one of their products @ £1600 for a tub!!!!

mcquires car tech polish
There definately some nice shiny cars about today. A lot of it is down to personal preference but I think you definately get what you pay for - I just can't get the missus to see why I need a £95 tub of Zymol :(

Your old rides pictures ?
I'll have to see if I can dig out a pic of my Metallic Brown Datsun 120y 4 door with loads of spot lights on and all wired straight into the lighting circuit direct with a fuse wrapped in silver fag paper. When they were all on you could smell the wiring starting to melt. LOL

Tropical / Marine setup
I used to keep marines but I didn't research properly before I started so didn't have the best kit but I never really had any probs. When starting up get the best skimmer you can afford as it'll pay for itself in no time. With a decent skimmer it keeps the water changes to a minimum so you don't use so much salt and RO water. The initial startup period is 6 weeks before you can add any fish then you add a couple of hardy ones and slowly build from there over a few months. The cost of the marine fish is higher than tropical but you must remember you cannot keep as many so the livestock cost for marine would probably be around the same. I had a 4 foot tank holding 68 gallons an external filter, deep sand bed, a couple of halide lights as they make the water shimmer nicely and they are required for most corals, a pretty crap skimmer and a UV filter. Live stock was Regal Tang, Lemonpeel angel, Flame Angel, Lipstick Tang, 5 Green Chromis, Yellow Belly Damsel and a few Corals. I used to change 10galls every 2 weeks but would have been less with a decent skimmer. I sold it all so I could start a new tank in the chimney brest but then found out the chimney holds the house up!! It's not as hard as people think to keep marines just more work if you don't get the right kit. Chris.

FFS! Look at the price
I know when i got rid of mine it had the dodgy box, but I went to a few dealers who didn't know about the box on 5 and 6 grand cars they were reluctant to give me a grand part ex and some wouldn't touch it at all. They are only really worth what someone will pay like any other car, trouble is most people don't wanna pay sh*t for them for some reason.

Tyres, tyres, tyres
As I said in an earlier post everyone has their own past experiences of tyres. I've never had Kumho's before and they did well in some yank tests so I thought i'd give them a go. So far I don't have a problem with them, maybe coz I don't drive stupid in the wet I don't know. I'm not implying anyone on here does drive stupid in any conditions btw.

Tyres, tyres, tyres
I read a few tests on tyres a couple of months ago and a lot of the time the results of a good few brands and types were pretty close. I also read that these differences are only really noticeable on the track when it comes down to grip. Everyone imo has their own preferred choice of tyres made from past experiences of tyres letting go at inappropriate moments etc which they put down to the tyres grip when it could've been something like spilt deisel that caused that little slide in the first place.

Tyres, tyres, tyres
Fronts are 225/50-16 and rears are 245/45-16 £50 each from a local small tyre fitters.

Tyres, tyres, tyres
I've got Kumhos all round on my n/a and they are way better than the michelins I had on the rear when I got the car, the michelins let go all the time in the damp even at 20mph coming into my road I was glad to get shot of 'em and the Kumho's only cost me £200 for 4. Chris.

targa roof seals
I thought about sealing all round the roof but I sealed a couple of places where there were gaps in the rubber that looked likely culprits on the drivers side and hey presto no leaks (so far!)

Tom Tom go celeb voices
I had some celeb voices for my PDA running tom tom, the only one I thought was any good was Yoda but even he gets on yer nerves after a while. I downloaded the file from newsgroups but unfortunately don't have it any more after my pc harddrive went t*ts up last week I lost so much good stuff but that's another story lol.
