  1. thanks mark, think I will do this in the winter...she can rattle away until then....she goes off the road in the winter...
  2. how easy is it to change the lifters...I have a spare engine and am wondering if I should not rebuild it into a nice uprated engine and fit it in...aiming for about 400bhp...is more than enough...will the standard engine take that sort of power...and can i tell if the followers are useless or good to reuse by checking them somehow
  3. 480 quid for a complete set is a real cost that you I find hard to justify in these old cars...
  4. i have tried oil, I have done additives, in my sons car it worked a treat, in my car done nothing...very very annoying...wonder if there is a valve spring replacement, dumb that these things are suposed to adjust for wear then start to caus their own longer term problems over time...cant beat a good old fashoned spring..
  5. mine has a tappy noise too, its getting me down too, it sounds a bit like a big end but too soft and too hard for a tappet at times but am sure its the tappets in mine. i guess the only choice is to replace the hydraulic valves. Mine runs so damn sweet annoying that it has this noise...
  6. who is selling? okay let me get this right the 350z rotors wil fit but I need an adaptor plate to fit my calipers...does anyone know who can make this adaptro plate..a biiger rotor will improve the braking force for sure..but agree that bigger brakes more than likely better, but I just am not going to spend 2 grand on brakes for a 3 grand car...would be silly
  7. okay I now have my car MOT'd and running sweetish...I am not overly happy with the brakes, they heat up big time real quick if driven hard...I want to try the 350 cars rotors, does anyone know who makes the adaptor bracket for the calipers...am assuming the bigger rotors should enable me to run harder longer with better braking and less heat fdade...i have 19 inch wheels so space not a problem...
  8. Okay I am fairly new to 300zx ownership, son has a couple of them he is a lot more knowledgeable but not sure about this problem. My car speedo is reading at least 25% slow, ie at 30 I am reading 23, at 40 29, at 50 just about 40, at 70 I am reading 55 and at 70 mph on my car I am doing about 85mph... I have just changed the gearbox, and I think I have 18 or 19 inch very low profile wheels, should have checked before i wrote this message..anyway, anyone any idea if its the wheels or gearbox, or maybe some other issue. My car is also really noisy above 70 mph, wind noise, panel fit is poor and the rear spoiler a developing mess...is this normal...
  9. got my gearbox, just taken the car for its MOT after it turns out the person who sold it to me had not MOT'd it...why do people tell such lies, got to decide if i plan to sue him or not, if it fails with big problems then its back to him...if not then the box gets changed and we are away...after it gets vic checked, that will take forever...oh joy...
  10. yes I [plan to have at least three good cars before the end of the quarter...just collecting a box on sunday from markderby...this will go into my car and solves it third gear woes and then I will be on the road....want to have at least another two running, one is my sons he had a bad day with is today would not run right at all, we will sort monday...he has an na and its a nice drive, going to get myself one as a regular driver, better on fuel thant the twin turbo...want a really nice one though as modern as I can get...will be on the serach for one over the next few months...
  11. alton hants it is, if you know me from afar its because of the miitary stuff I drive around here.....I have a big cold war collection that i plan to turn into a museum...
  12. yes it was a bit confusing.. i want to fit another auto box to my white one as its not working right...so I will fit one next week, collecting a tt one on sunday from derby... I then plan to swap the manual out of my sons car into this one once he has run it out of tax and MOT...june...just wonderd if it was an easy fit...sounds like it isnt too bad... will take some photos this week...
  13. Hi I have three 300zx, a non turbo manual, sons, a twin turbo, sons, and mine a twin turbo automatic. The plan is to remover the manual from the n/a engine and fit it to my twin turbo... But I WONDER is the automatic engine from the twin turbo the same as the auto from the n/a.... My white one has a real problem getting into third, we changed the solenoid from a n/a engine auto box (I think) but it made matters worse...so suspect its something else, another sensor not working right or a completely buggerd box...boxes are relatively common so will change it I think for now until the manual box is stripped out... But the big question are the twin turbo boxes all the same...
