  1. Do you know what paint he used? If it was cellulose then 2 litres, while not much, is not too bad, as he would have diluted 1:1 with thinners. P1200 paper is great if you're confident in your technique and know there's a good depth of paint to work with. That's what I start with on the minis I paint if I get a bit of orange peel. But I paint in single stage and put down 8 + coats so I don't have to worry too much. I could also easily paint it again if I go too far. If you suspect the paint depth on yours is not great I would start with 2500 paper and take it slowly. That's what I did on my new Zed which has a resprayed quarter panel. I use a small rubber sanding block, lots of water and a squeegee so I can see when the peel has gone. After that I use G3 paste and lots of water followed by Menzerna P2500 and P4000. All using a cheapo buffer. Mine sanded very easily so I suspect it has single stage acrylic clear coat. Two pack clear is much harder and slower to sand. It made a huge difference on mine, even improving the colour match slightly due I think to the different refraction of light in the orange peel finish to the original Nisan finish. It's better to leave a bit of OP than go too far, especially on a white car, as it's not too noticeable.
  2. Yikes! That looks like one of my minis  Should be OK for another 20 years now you've got on top of it
  3. Looks like top notch work there, both the welding and the paint
  4. I'm in rainy Cumbria (so far the T-top seals seem to be doing their job but I'm expecting to get wet next time I go out in it) Got mine from London, which was not exactly handy, but I had a great drive home and 29.5 mpg, which I was really happy with. Found another pic. The rear quarter panel on this side has been painted and the colour match is not 100% but I'm happy with how it looks now compared with when I got it: And one of my latest work in progress... David
  5. Cheers I'll do that. Hopefully there's a picture below.... I'll get some better shots when I get the chance.
  6. Hi Been lurking for a while since getting my NA. Finally got around to saying hello. I had an S13 about 15 years ago and always wanted a Z32. They were out of my price range back then but now that I've been gently persuaded to give up motorcycling, I have a bit of spare cash. She's a 92 I think, although the V5 says 93 (I say that because she has alloy calipers, which I read somewhere were phased out in 1992). She needs a bit of work - centre bearing's wobbly and the diff (I think) is a bit noisy. But she goes well and has zero rust. I'm off to ZedWorld at the end of the month to find out what needs to be done to sort out the mechanicals. Looking forward to it! Meanwhile I'm dealing with the dodgy paint. Someone let Stevie Wonder paint the OS rear wing but it's 100 times better after a couple of hours of wet sanding and buffing. I restore old minis as a sort of self-financing hobby / form of self abuse, so I'm pretty good with a welder and spray gun. I thought I was OK with engines too until I had a look at the Zed.... Way too much going on there. I'll leave anything more than an oil change to the experts. I'll post a pic when I work out how. David
