  1. Update: Problem Solved. I ordered a fuel damper and a pressure regulator. I also ordered new pre cut fuel lines from Z1 Motorsports as per advice. Having removed the plenum balance tube to get access I found that the plenum had fuel laying in it and it stank. I removed the fuel damper/regulator & various hoses (there wasn't any pressure in the fuel line because it had all leaked through the fuel damper into the vacuum line and eventually ended up sat in the plenum). I replaced all of the parts & tested for fuel leaks. All OK. I reckon the reason why my car was hard to start was lack of fuel pressure due to it firing straight through the diaphragm of the fuel damper and into the plenum, hence the need to keep turning it over until it eventually started. I took it for a test drive and the smell of fuel had gone. Before I could smell the fuel coming through the air vents in the dash and it was so bad it made my eyes water!! I turned it off several times and restarted with no problems. Fingers crossed that thats the end of it :) All I've got to do now is stop my fan belt from squealing when I start it up. Its bloody annoying. Ive put a new vicious fan clutch on it and its tensioned correctly. Bloody annoying!!
  2. Ordered new fuel lines cut to fit from Z1 Motorsports. My weekend activity will be changing the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel damper and the fuel lines. Hopefully this will sort out my issue. Cheers for the advice I will post my findings when Ive completed the work.
  3. Ok does that involve a plenum pull and are the fuel pipes Nissan supplied or universal?
  4. Thanks for the info and advice. My fuel pressure regulator is the original that came with the car.....its black. Given my car is a 1989 model year it's nearly 30 years old!! I have ordered a new pressure regulator and the other one (can't remember what its called) from Z1 MotorSports this morning. I will also tighten up the jubilee clips on the fuel line. Hopefully this will solve the issue as I could really do without my Zed catching fire!!
  5. UPDATE: Having got my carsick from the body shop and driven from Wiltshire to Cardiff & back my car starter stinking of fuel through the air vents. This got me thinking if it could be related to y starting issues. I checked the ECU for fault codes and got code 55, all clear. I checked my fuel lines for leaks and couldn't see anything obvious. However, when I pulled the vacuum lines off of the fuel pressure regulator it stank of fuel. I think maybe the diaphragm has split and its leaking through into the vacuum system. This could be linked with my starting issue. I going to change the fuel pressure regulator and the other fuel component jobby (which looks like it has a diaphragm in it as well) and see if that cures my problem. Is this a Nissan main dealer part of can I then from somewhere else Z1 motorsports maybe??
  6. Just popped in to see my Zed in the spray shop. She's 30 in a few months so I thought I would treat her to a new coat of paint. I last had spray work done to her 14 years ago when I first bought her. I would add a photo but I don't know how to :)

  9. Hi Jeff Thanks for the advice. My car is away at the body shop having some spray work done so I can't do anything for a week or two. Its off to Jimmer to have a new flywheel and clutch fitted so I will ask him to have a look. Im going to get it re-mapped as I have been advised that Noz is not the best!! Jimmer has recommended a company to me so I will get it booked in. I will keep you posted and anyone else who's interested just incase its useful to anyone in the future who has the same problem :)
  10. Hi Jeff Update: I have checked the temp sensor and wiring. All ok. Still having trouble. i think it might be a fuel/mapping issue. My engine has been rebuilt by Jimmer (Top bloke) with forged pistons and bigger injectors and hybrid turbos. It was road mapped by turbonoz and since then it seems to run rich and smells of fuel. The carbon canister has been deleted. I will check the resistance value of the coolant temp sensor (perhaps out of range) and see if thats an issue.
  11. Thank Jeff I will have a look and post my findings just incase anyone else has the same problems.
  12. Occasionally my Z32 TT turns over really quickly and will not start. I had to get it out of the way yesterday so as I was on my own and my drive is on a slight incline, out of desperation I turned it over in gear to one it out of the way. Having moved it forward a couple of feet on the starter motor in first gear, I tried it again and it started first time!! When it won't start the engine turns over very quickly compared to normal. I'm not a mechanic but I am an engineer. The only thing I can think of is less resistance when its turning over IE. no compression. Can a valve get stuck open or if there in no fuel being injected into the cylinders, does this make it easier for the engine to turn over?? Has anyone else had this issue before?? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  13. Add me-Devizes Wiltshire :)
  14. Thanks for the advice guys, I will order the rebuild kit and change the seals. I will repost the results when done, to hopefully hp out any other 300 owners if they have the same problem
  15. Hi guys I have a 1989 z32 tt with an intermittent brake problem. I have d2 380mm 8 pistons on the front and 330 4 pots on the rear. I am using dot 5 brake fluid and have a firm brake pedal, however every now and then (we are talking a once a week event) when I brake the brake pedal will go to the floor with no resistance at all. If I lift and brake again the pedal feel comes back but it's not a nice feeling. I don't know what the pedal was like before the brakes were fitted because it was stored in my garage for 7 1/2 years. Any help would be appreciated. I have read a post where someone else had the same problem (with the standard Nissan brakes) and they changed the brake master cylinder but it did not solve the problem.
  16. Not trashing it just fairly steady driving with little short bursts every know and again. To be honest it's pretty quick, if I need to overtake less than 1/4 throttle and your past at 75/80 mph more sort of cruising than full throttle mental stuff. I am also making sure the engine is up to temp before using any boost and I let it cool down for a few miles and let it idle for a couple of minutes before turning it off. I have got a turbo timer but it hasn't worked since Ztech AKA Ryan did my auto to manual conversion  can't wait to get her properly mapped and find out how many ponies I've got on the dyno. I think with the Jimmer and Noel combination Zedding has never been better
  17. Ok noted ref basemap. Jimmer said go steady but don't be afraid of using boost, just don't do hard pulls using prolonged boost. Should I just potter about for now to get some miles on the engine and do the oil changes?
  18. Cheers guys. Yes she goes like a stabbed rat (although I have to be careful until its run in) and purrs like a kitten. Its great to be driving her again, I forgot how much fun they are. I have still got loads to do, mapping, suspension upgrades, a bit of blending in on the front bumper and I need to get it professionally upholstered ( I had a go and its not pretty). But thats the point of owning a 25 year old classic, its a long term project thats not to be rushed but enjoyed
  19. Yes I use them for my Twin Turbo. I have used them for quite some time now. I used to used A Plan imports dept but they ended up trying to charge me 2K even though I am 44 and have full no claims with protected bonus :tt2::tt2:
  20. Collected my car on Friday having had the engine rebuilt by Jimmer at PowerZed. Jimmer's done loads of work including a new wiring loom, bigger injectors, bigger SMIC's, 535 turbo upgrade, forged pistons and loads more. Now she purrs like a pussy cat and is silky smooth. I cant wait to get it back to Jimmer & Noel AKA Turbonoz to get it mapped. Just going through the run in process and we are good to go. Jimmer has been great, he's kept in touch and has given me great advice and as a bonus he's a top bloke. I have spent the weekend driving around (she's been off the road for 7 years) with a massive smile on my face. Cheers Jimmer I cant thank you enough :)
  21. Yep I'm convinced. I am going to get it fitted to my Zed when it comes back from Jimmer sometime soon :) The other thing that has come to light recently is that on 20 plus year old HICAS systems the rear tie rods on some cars (it is very rare, but it has happened) can let go and that will send a car off of the road, as the rear wheel ends up pointing in the wrong direction. I have deleted the HICAS from my car and gone with the Driftworks kit which replaces the rear steering arm bushes and gets rid of the steering wrack and tie rods, thus removing the whole system. I prefer to drive the car without HICAS. I was always a little uneasy the way the rear of the car moved when going around a tight fast corner. It makes the rear of the car feel sloppy and I was always a bit uneasy trying to distinguish normal steering movement from oversteer.
  22. I have been thinking of fitting race logic traction control to my Zed. I have had a few scares over the years, especially coming of roundabouts and very gently feeding in the power and getting handfuls of oversteer.....very entertaining for the driver behind me :). It gets embarrassing driving a 400bhp car and being overtaken by front wheel drive cars in the wet. I hope the crashed Zed is not a right off and even more importantly I am glad the driver is ok. It would be a shame to see another Z32 go to the great scrap yard in the sky :(
  23. Cheers guys, Its nice to see so many fellow Zedder's out there. I was starting to feel a bit isolated. Thanks for the information and support and I am very much looking forward to meeting you all in the future :)
  24. Hi All, I have had my 300ZX LWB Auto to Manual for 8 years now. Its been off the road and stored in my garage for 7 years mainly because I had a bad experience with a mechanic called Ryan from ZTEC. I lost faith having spent a large amount of money for Ryan to trash my car. The last straw was when I went over a humped backed bridge and the lower cross member dropped off the mounting studs because the lower front suspension cross member had not been bolted back on (after a auto to manual conv.) and it was just sitting on the threaded studs!! I thought it was going to end horribly, but luckily I managed to stop. I considered selling the car, thinking that the Zed is a mother to work on and trying to find a good mechanic that was prepared to work on them and do a good job was a non starter. It started to get me down, I tried to learn as much as I could about the car and how it worked and thought about going down the route of doing everything myself. The trouble is I am not a mechanic and have a pretty full on job and I don't really have time to get involved with any major projects outside of work. I missed my car, I missed driving it and most of all I missed how it made me feel :). So I started spending hours on the net trying to find someone I could trust to work on my car. Its not like owning a BMW. Until recently I had a BMW 645 Conv, if anything went wrong with it it went to the local BMW dealer and got sorted. Not so with the Zed. I took it to the local Nissan dealer, anyone would think that Nissan had never made it. They said they could not look after it because it was an imported car. Anyway, to cut a long storey short, I found Jimmer from PowerZed, he has taken on my car and is sorting it for me. I am told the guy is a legend and from my experience with him so far I am highly impressed. My faith in the car is slowly being restored and I am looking forward to being reunited with my Zed and rekindling my love affair for this car.
