  1. Try putting a jack under the spanner to push it up. You can always get away with using the wrong tool if you apply enough force...
  2. Hi, Renewed subscription last week by bank transfer, should have my username in the reference. cheers JK
  3. Some devices have a 2GB limit. If you have a smaller drive (under 2GB), format it as FAT16 and try again.
  4. Lamborghini Miura, can't think of any others though
  5. Thanks Dutchy, I tried my local Nissan dealer based on part numbers from the Courtesy site, but they couldn't find them and even if they could track down the part it would be an estimated 3-6 weeks (it's apparently quite an old car) Spoke to Mike and I should have replacement ball-joints for 35 GBP per side by Monday :)
  6. I've had a look on twinturbo.net and it looks like a new lower arm includes the ball joint, which can be succesfully pressed in/out (if you can find a replacement), but there is a risk of damaging the arm in the process as it's apparently a bit flimsy. The ball seat is a separate cone shaped bit of metal which just sits on top of the ball joint, but I don't think that replacing it is going to do much good (which is a shame as it looks cheap). Does anyone know how much a lower arm costs and has anyone been able to source and fit a ball joint separately?
  7. My car has failed its MOT with excessive play in the front lower ball joint at the hub end of the lower transfer link (not the only thing). This bit Does anyone know whether this is going to require a whole new transverse link, or just the ball seat? Also does anyone know the part numbers (or where I can get either of them from)? cheers JK
  8. I got mine from ebay, shouldn't take much more than around 30 minutes per side for the front disks. For the sake of a quid, I would recommend getting hold of a couple of M10 bolts first. They can be screwed into the front of the old disks to push them off the hubs. Repeated hammering may have the desired effect eventually, but mine seemed pretty stuck (I think rears need M8). You may need to adjust the pads slightly (the new disks will be slightly thicker). Disk replacement Pad replacement
  9. I have both, but haven't fitted the decat pipes because the exhaust alone is pretty much on the brink of how much noise I will take (just the motorway drone really). I think the exhaust is designed for the TT so has less silencing than an NA exhaust. Having said that both are very high quality, and the exhaust sounds pretty good when booting it and I may just be more fussy than most people.
  10. Since you have datascan, probably worth checking the TPS. Should be between 0.4 and 0.5 at idle (mine was 0.38 which resulted in an idle of 1500ish). There should also be an idle signal shown on the display (showing whether the ECU thinks the car is idle or not) unplugging the grey connector from the TPS while the engine it running should reset it There is a pretty good idle diagnostic in the fuel and emissions section of the FSM
  11. There was a suspiciously empty threaded hole where I expected it to be, but the error dissapeared when I put the old ECU back it. I put it down to the Nissan cost cutting on later cars, which explains all the other missing stuff on my car.
  12. Yes, I have swapped mine. The only problem is that the new one (8 bit) is complaining about a fuel temperature senser problem (my car doesn't have one), but this is only noticable if you start looking for error codes.
  13. Within datascan you can configure the wheel size, if it will let you make your rolling diameter 50% bigger than normal, it should compensate for the fact that 1/3 of your speedo signals are being lost (maybe).
  14. The correct values/behaviour for each sensor can be found in the factory service manual, in the Fuel and Emission Control section: This bit
  15. You can create and debug websites in VS2005 without having IIS installed. Never tried running it on XP home though. This should be suffient for educational purposes, though obviously not so good if you want to actually publish the site.
  16. XP doesn't come with SQL Server (no versions of Windows do). If you go to the following link you can download the desktop version of SQL Server (MSDE). This doesn't come with the mmc based management tool of the full version of SQL Server, throttles performance and limits database size to 2Gb. Apart from that will to be identical to SQL Server and should appear in the drop down list you are refering to, and is fully redistributable. If it doesn't just enter (local) with the brackets as the SQL Server. The database list should then show at least one database (master). Depending on what you are looking to experiment with there may be easier ways to achieve the same result.
  17. The VIN details are in the general information section of the FSM: General Information If the model number (on the VIN plate to the left of the bonnet catch) contains an S, it is a TT, if not it isn't, likewise if it contains an A it is (or at least was) an Automatic.

I had the same problem (even after severe malletting). Generous amounts of WD40 around where the hub meets the wheel sorted it out.
  19. A port scan is basically someone checking your PC to see what applications are listening for connections from the Internet. The numbers will be an IP address n.n.n.n where n is between 0 and 255, which will uniquely identify a given machine on the Internet. Each IP address can "listen" on 65 thousand different ports, which effectively allows this many simultaneous connections. If you are running a website, your PC will be listening on port 80, if you are running an email server, it will listen on port 25 etc. By scanning your machine, someone can not only assertain (reasonably accurately) which applications you are running, but also locate possible weaknesses and plan further attacks. Generally port scans are harmless provided you have an active firewall, and are rarely targetted at individuals. If you have a permanent internet connection, don't be surprised if you are scanned every few seconds by some teenage sociopath looking for something to break. You can determine who is scanning you by checking the whois details for their IP address (try http://www.dnsstuff.com)
  20. There is probably a vent for the fan somewhere on the case. By preventing the laptop from loading an "intellegent" operating system (by entering the BIOS), it should prevent it switching off, which would point the finger at Windows just being demented or ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) What is the make/model?
  21. Take out the battery and power it from the PSU, this will rule out the battery. It would also power down if it detects a high temperature (possibly incorrectly). If you press "del" when it starts up (to enter the BIOS) and leave it on for a few minutes this should prevent the ACPI shutting it down due to temperature problems. Googling the model may show some possible solutions, though generally laptops don't lend themselves to being fixed.
  22. Ask one guard what the other would advise him to do. Assuming they understood the question the response would always be the door of eternal imprisonment
  23. The car in Teen agent was an N/A, what more of an endorsment could you ask for? Just in case anyone missed Tean Agent - Tean Agent Car chase N/As were never available in the UK, this doesn't affect availability as most cars are imports anyway, but may affect insurance. Climate control and leather were options on N/As (aircon is standard though), I think they may have been options on Jap TTs (standard on UK ones). All LWB cars have targa tops, SWB can be hardtop or targa but are much rarer. Automatics outnumber manuals by at least 5:1 too. HICAS is a mixed blessing and a number of people get rid of it anyway.
