hope so as that would be an easy fix,have made an adaptor to go in where the maf is so i can pressurize the system and listen.unless there are any other tips?

its a 91' tt import.Its the gearbox issue thats bugging me was trying to pull away in 2nd (thats what it felt like) occasionally along with notchy steering etc but with no ecu plugged in the problems go away apart from it still feels like its holding back.I did read another post from someone else not gapping their plugs so will check mine as when reving over 4k its stutters almost like a back fire then sort of clears and revs higher

just wondering about the light mine isn't on and no fault codes on the ecu,but it feels like it won't rev past about 4k.The car ran better when the MAF was change (idle sorted itself out and the smell of petrol stopped.Had fault code on the gearbox (see prvious post) speed sensor,checked the sensor itself and the back of the speedo i resoldered what appeared to be a dry joint (speedo is working).it will rev past 4k in neutral but not under load.My cruise control stoppped working and the steering was notchy until today i disconnected the gearbox ecu and tried it round the block and my steering is back aswell as cruise control.Really im wondering if the ecu is up the creek/what is it doing?Is it in safety or is it fuel/air problem? (no vac leaks as far as i'm aware)

speedo is all good,i have read people with a similar problems usually involing the kmh/mph converter.ill take the clocks out (i take it the speedo head is back there?)and have a look

awesome piece of info,before i read this on my way home i noticed my cruise control wasn't working (the hicas light is on but i have a pas leak to although its topped up,steering is notchey was thinking it was the pump but am thinking theres more to it now.where do i go now?

cheers mate,cleared the engine codes after sourcing a problem in the engine by disconnecting battery.but still in safety.sometimes it does feel like it is pulling away in 2nd (if in D) but will go through the gears 1,2,then d etc

Just done the autobox diagnostics and fault no.2 came up speed sensor .Can i clear this code in anyway and recheck?is there a short list of factors that can cause this fault?(its a 91 import TT)i'm guessing this fault could put me in safety mode to?

dunno the filter type as it came with the car,i noticed when you rev the engine the 'y' shape intake pipe with the filter on does compress quite alot (as if your sucking on a partially blocked straw)which led me to think the filter may need cleaning or changing

changed maf today,blocked the front vents on the nose panel ticks over and runs like a dream,no fault codes either :).BUT still seems to be in safety mode and it won't pull,seems to get to about3k and backs off??gonna clean out the cone filter how do you treat it after washing it?is there a spray for these?

i agree very frustrating just seem to be going round the engine chasing a shadow lol,sifting through the service history that came with mine its happened before and coil packs were changed,tps,maf,etc faults cleared but seem to reappear months later.seems as if the previous owner had similar problems

took the maf off yesterday and the temp sensor tested the sensor-working fine.put a hairdryer on conectors (nice and shiney no green) on the maf etc seemed to run better but still in saftey mode.Today back to normal,the nose panel does have vents in it so am guessing a damp issue somewhere hopefully.I have a maf coming this week used but tested £20 bargin lol,i agree just because its 18 months old means nothing logically

feared it could be,the one thats on it is 18 months old,replaced by the previous owner (£400 reciept!!) i'm guessing ill find one cheaper lol

someone said a small bit of vasiline on the connectors will help stop air/moisture corrosion,i have looked into it and seems worth doing but i don't know anyone thats used it themselves.Is the fuel filter under alot of pressure?i feel it a silly questio,i was told its not as simple as just undoing it and changing?Thanks for the relpy though :)

did find a small vac leak and this appeared to fix the problem of the bad idle, althoughi think its masking a underlying problem as it still won't rev much past 3k and feels like its on the limit (i presume this is safety boost).Ecu test doesn't throw any faults up just says code 55 all clear?!?Today i take the car out after a slightly damp night and its stuttering again,i have a temp sensor on order and gonna test the ecu today.Is there anything else i could do while i'm playing with it??

The car starts fine from cold after about a mile its starts to stutter and lose power with a strong smell of petrol.its a 91 tt import.any ideas before I start pulling bits off would be most appreciated

hi all,my tt jap import has suddenly started to stall when idling,junctions etc.drives ok until you put your foot down and at about 5000rpm it hestates in a big way.......any ideas would be great
