It was priced right to take the risk on it being a nail, breaking the nice bits and weighing it in. Luckily it's actually a pretty nice car -

It wasn't just a gearbox problem, the car had a horrendous bottom end rattle, a frame rubbed on inside of tyres so had to drive got 4 miles and blew a hole the size of a tax disc in the block. Awaited recovery as per plan b. So will be putting in new engine and box shortly. Really tidy example in bodywork, deserves a decent engine!

Got home 6 hours after set off. No serious injuries to report. Inspection to begin tomorrow, see where the oil has come from and work back from there.

Well that was the other thing I thought, drive it a few miles, call out the AA and await free home recovery?? Thanks for all the advice guys.

How about if car was running but in neutral? Would that solve oil pump problem?

What do we think about driving it 60 miles in 2nd (auto) ?? I don't know what the gear ratios are like?

Appreciate the advice guys but a flatbed will cost me more than the car. Just trying to get it back 60 miles as cheap as I can. Options currently are to drive it back in 2nd gear (it's an auto and only 1 and 2 is working) or my mate has an a frame. Everything else is proving to be expensive! However thanks for the information, really helpful if not what I wanted to hear!

I'm collecting a car on friday with the same issue, will let you know how I get on. Can I just ask what sort of speed you can sensibly do in 2nd gear?

I understand rules are rules, but making life deliberately difficult for new members from becoming 300zx owners by purchasing cars off of members just seems rather backwards. Rather than taking that in a bad way, perhaps you could just reconsider current policy and whether its as sensible as it could be; its certainly not very friendly and welcoming from my perspective, aren't new members the life blood of the forum?? The other thing is that I've tried to see how to become a subscribed member and can't see an obvious link anywhere? Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!
