Braved the snow and went to test drive the Golf GTi. 1st car I saw as I went into the car lot was a red LWB 300zx auto TT!! As if!! £3.5k on an H plate, doubt it'll be going anywhere fast. GTi was nice, managed a decent test drive on a 3 lane A road, was nice, responsive, fast. Interior was a let down tho, previously a smoker's car, so interior was dirty, shabby in places, bits of plastic trim off and generally not as tidy as the Bora. In comparison the Bora just felt much nicer. So walked away from the Golf - and stumbled accross an S (98) reg BMW 318i 4 door saloon. 100k on clock, 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, part history, priced at £1295. Sales place was actually closed but managed to give the car quite a once over as it was unlocked. Interior was tidy, everything was original apart from it had a new CD player. Hmmmm. Wondered if I waggled a grand in cash at the dealer if he'd want a deal. Wondering about spending a lot less than planned, and putting the balance from selling Zedward away for uni/possible fun car come summer....

Argh, dunno, Recaros in the Golf......cream leather, 4 yr old daughter with snowy boots.....luxury and higher running costs over faster less luxurious interior and cheaper running. Will call the garage later, see if the Golf is even still there....

Lol, you're right when you say the Bora ain't pretty. To be honest, its the thought of immaculate cream leathers and a 4 yrs old....eek!! Lol I know nothing will be fast like the Zed, hell, I wouldn't even want to compare, but I don't want to be feeling the need to push my feet through the floorpan and run a la Fred Flinstone because I bought a car with a ball and chain attached! I sold the Zed for lots of reasons, the need for rear seats was a major factor, and running costs and practicality. The Bora I picked is a luxury car on a small budget, no doubt, its just I have always liked Golfs.....simple? Not when its a woman making a decision (again, got that in before you did :winkiss:)

No doubt although the Golf appears unmolested, the Bora has been modded with a K & N filter, so who knows. Need to see the car. Golf GTI. Wanted one since that ad in the 80s when that posh lady flounced out of her fella's house shedding fur coats and pearls but she kept her GTI....

Thats not helpful! Lol There isn't one in my budget, as it happens the Golf is out of budget, but i wouldn't mind betting if I wafted £2k in cash at a salesman he wouldn't let me leave without shaking my hand....

Argh!! Will call the garage tomorrow, see if the Golf is still for sale. Can't test drive in a foot of snow tho and the garage are supposed to be taxing the Bora Monday ready for Weds.... The Bora interior is so much nicer, but apart from the the tricks and whistles and bells are the same. But the Golf is FASTER guys!
