Battery problem
I fitted a new expensive heavy-duty battery four weeks ago and have had it on trickle charge over this cold spell. I was going out for a drive this morning turned the key and the instrument lights began flickering, I didn’t even bother trying to start the car I guessed the battery was flat, I checked the voltage it read 7.4v. it was 13.2v. when fitted. I know the cold weather is bad for batteries but this shouldn’t have happened, should it?

bloody potholes
Potholes really bad for my Z. either rattles lose a battery terminal ptu or ecu terminal and we stall; I also seem to have mighty rigid suspension which loosens your fillings over a bump.

How cold

The average age of a zed owner poll
Blimey I seem to be a fossil, only just though! Please don’t let me be the oldest one on the site. I had my first Z in 1990 a white one with a navy blue interior a company car brand new from the dealer; those were the days!

snow chain question
As has been said snow chains not much good for this country. One year I tried tyres with screw in studs on my Disco, only to be pulled over by the law, as they were illegal on UK roads. They tend to shred the tarmac. Best option is to buy a set of cheap winter wheels from the back pages of a 4x4 mag.

We have snow - lots of it
No snow here yet. I have just mowed the lawns and washed the car, t-shirt and shorts weather, like a spring day.

Cats drunk Antifreeze
Good advice, my dog and cat are always nosing around when I am working on the car. I did notice the cat was more than interested when I was topping up the antifreeze. I hope I kept him away, bit worried now. I hope scampi makes it.

Aftermarket oil temp gauge
Funny you should mention this I have a digital oil temp gauge and during the week it has gone mad. It ranges from 72 to 100+ when on a run. It just gives random readouts. When it was working it never went over 82.

whats the most expensive car your zed has made look rather silly
Oh nearly forgot an MX5!!!, an old one with flip up lights, the lad pulled up at the lights with a determined look, he nodded and revved up indicating he was up for a race. Brothers and sisters I smoked it goooood! Didn’t even see it in my mirrors. A Ferrari hmmm! Not seen one of those in my neighbourhood.

whats the most expensive car your zed has made look rather silly
Over the last couple of weeks a Z4 Sport, 911 Carrera 3.8, Jaguar XK 4.2 and an old but feisty Camaro 3.8 all easy drags from traffic lights on the local dual carriage way. But I admit to being beaten by a 04 Reg Ford Streetka 1.6i as my car stalled yet again!!! I was so annoyed I ripped a branch from a nearby tree and gave the car a good thrashing, and a harsh talking too, had no problems since. Honest, I really do not hammer the car just enjoy the occasional burst of speed.

Fu*king disgraceful.
It gets worse. You wonder what c**p we are going to have to take next! I am not sure if you can say crap here? I think they are very deluded as to the difference between hell and paradise. Their paradise must be a hateful place because they will be there; it would be utter hell to us.

Remembrance
Got into a bit of a disagreement over the 11 o clock silence this morning. I was checking progress on a building project. The workmen had the radio on and all of them kept the silence, standing still. Except for two young lads walking by talking, giggling and generally being obnoxious. They thought we should ‘get over it and move on’. Remember these words, I quoted almost word for word. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They smirked and went on their way, probably thinking what a nutter. Couldn’t be bothered taking it any further, their loss.

How much is it worth?
I recently saw a 98 car similar mileage and spec for £2,500.

Lock up your Z
Talking to a guy from Eastbourne (a seaside town dun saaf) this morning. He told me his blue 1994 Z just prepped for the 200 mph club was stolen two weeks ago. The police said within 48 hours it would have been broken and parts sold off to order, probably internet breakers sites. He warned me to watch out for empty low loaders cruising the streets, it seems Z’s are a popular target. Any one had cars stolen? What state were they in if found?

ECU learning
I would like to know the answer to this question. It may be the reason my Z has been stalling and running erratically lately as I recently replaced the battery as the 6 year old one had died.

Had a text and email from someone interested in my zed
A couple of years ago I was selling a car worth £3000 to a guy from France. He said he would meet me at Newhaven with the cash and trailer it back. I wasn’t to happy with the deal so I insisted on a £500 cash deposit in advance, which amazingly enough he couriered over to me. I met the ferry he was meant to be on at Newhaven but there was no sign of him. I phoned and emailed for a couple of weeks, no response. Then his wife emailed me and said he had gone to the USA on urgent business, he was very sorry and said keep the deposit and forget the deal. Nice work if you can get it. I later sold the car on P Heads for the full amount. The other weird deal was when I sold my Yamaha 750 on ebay. I put ‘UK only and buyer to arrange pick up’ on the ad. The winning bidder was from Australia!!!! There were about 20 bids and his came in at the last nano second. He insisted on buying the thing and paid instantly with paypal. Shipping cost was £850 and loads of hassle and paper work. So be very cautious when selling to people you cant have some kind of direct contact with, even more suspicious when they don’t want to see the vehicle first, see them and see the money.

Can’t trust the old girl!
Cheers, I will keep going its just so frustrating cutting out at random times. Stalled twice this afternoon, nearly got written of once, not the way to be a ‘head turner’ on the high street. Other than the unreliability problem it’s a totally sound car. Perhaps I will replace the main sensors over the winter. Any one got a good PTU for sale?
