  1. Thanks, Timbo. I'll certainly take all of the precautions you said about. Did you strip the AIV equipment off of the car completely or just blank off the hoses? Also, what did you do with the two sensors after the Cats? Cheers, Mark
  2. Cheers Gents. Cardiff is indeed a long way away from Watford, but thanks for the info. I'm sure this would be a a good one for the FAQ's when done. Anyone done the work themselves?
  3. Hello Chappies, had my car MOT'd yesterday and it nearly failed due to corrosion (read: leaking) on the down pipes. The garage has managed to patch them up so that the car passed but it has given me the perfect opportunity to fit De-Cats. I have searched on the Forum for info on the Cat removal but i am unsure of how much work is involved. Is there anyone out there that can give me a blow by blow account of how they removed theirs. I've been told by the garage that they are unsure what to do with the AIV hoses (pre-cat) and also the sensors just after the cat (Temp sensors?). The De-cat i have includes the turbo elbow and my car is a 91TT J-Spec. Any help is greatly appreciated. Ta
  4. Cheers, chaps. Don't 'spose you know the standard ride heights do you?
  5. Anyone got any opinions on which is better? Am looking to replace my wallowy standard shocks and was looking at the adjustable units from the above. Which spring set would anyone recommend. My car has already been lowered but I'm not sure by how much, can anyone tell me what the standard ride heights are? Ta
  6. Chris, if you check out 300Zx.org.uk then there is a plethora of faults associated with rough running/stumbling/idling. It took me 3 months and £800 before i found out my problem (similar to yours). My problem was that the HKS filter had disintegrated and got sucked over the AFM (air flow meter). This was buggering up the mass reading. I got a new filter, cleaned up the AFM and now it only stumbles when cold very occaionally. The problem manifested itself by not wanting to rev over about 2500rpm. So it could be your AFM playing up. There is a method of testing it in the rough running/stumbling/idling 'How To' involving a multimeter, give it a try. Mark
  7. Nice one, thanks gents. I think I'm due a welcome pack as I'm a new member, is that right?
  8. Haven't seen Herman Munster posting for a while, is anyone looking after the store whil he's away?
  9. Cheers Ian, what do you mean about the quality? Was it the materials or the machining? Did the civic handle okay afterwards?
  10. Mike, No sign of me stickers, will PM you my address, just in case. Ta
  11. Anyone else have any thoughts on these? Maybe one of the Technical Boffins might be able to give a opinion? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7955193118&category=33582&sspagename=WD2V#ebayphotohosting
  12. I have seen this type of slip on coil-over for sale from reputable shops in the usual mags. Generally they are for Honda applications, but always thought it would be a good idea for us. With full coil-over applications costing anywhere between £600 - £1200 this sort of kit looks v.v. good value. Mark
  13. Any one out there fitted one of these Kits.........? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40192&item=7953936335&rd=1
  14. Sorry Mike, bit new at this forum lark. Would PM be the best way of doing this?
  15. By the way I'll have the internal stickers. Ta
  16. Just joined up by Pay Pal. Name and Addy. are as follows: Do you need any other info?
  17. I've got an HKS filter on mine (200mm Dia.) If your not sure then it only take a matter of minutes to whip off the front panel and get the filter off. Mine actually had a label on the back so i didn't even need to measure it.
  18. Update!!!! Looks like I've found the source of all my problems. I removed the HKS Air Filter to check the AFM and discovered half of it was missing (what was left looked pretty manky as well). It must have rotted and got sucked onto the Hot wire in the AFM. I Cleaned the AFM with Carb cleaner and replaced the Filter and it has only hesitated very slightly once since. I may still need to replace the AFM at some point but I'll cross that bridge when i come to it. All i need to do now is find some way of protecting the filter from the elements a bit better. Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.
  19. Andy, you mentioned the MAS. I have checked the connections to this and they are all okay (no corrosion). Is there any way to clean it or check it is operating correctly without replacing it completely? Do you think it could be something to do with the HKS mushroom filter thats fitted, i have heard stories of oiled filters clogging up the wires in Hot wire Air flow meters?
  20. Thanks chaps. I have carried out the ECU check a number of times and it always comes up with a code '55'. This is all clear from what i understand. Would the fault actually have to be happening at the time or does the ECU store the faults for checking later?
  21. Thanks Ivan, from what i understood the PTU usually fails due to the high tempuratures. The garage i had the car in tried heating up the PTU whilst it was running to see if it had any effect. It ran the same. Can they be effected by vibration? Does anyone know how much a series II PTU is?
  22. Hi there, this is my first post so go easy. Had my car for a few months now (its a 1991 TT Manual Jap Import), and have been suffering with the age old 300zx problem of a misfire. Originally the car didn't want to idle, i did all of the usual things, connectors, plugs (replaced), changed the fuel filter (checked the pressure) etc. but still ran like a bag of Sh*t. Had it in a garage and they found the Drivers side O2 sensor was knackered. They changed this but it didn't seem to make a discernable difference. At this point i changed one of the coil packs as it was cracked around the stem, and also the Idle control valve. Still the same. Put it back into the garage and they found that one of the injector connectors was corroded. They cleaned this up and again it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Then the following Friday it really didn't want to run at all. The next day it didn't miss abeat, and now idles okay. The only problem i have now is that, every so often when i put my foot down the car doesn't want to rev above 2000rpm, unless i back off and re-apply it (even then it doesn't always clear). Like i said all the connections have been cleaned, but i still get this. I did have the car on a rolling road over Xmas and got a figure of 320BHP (woo hoo!), with an HKS Filter and 5Ziggen exhaust, but typically it didn't miss the entire time it was there (Doh!). Looking through the threads on 'Misfires' it looks like the water temp sensor can have this effect, any other suggestions? Any Help is appreciated
