Body on frame Z32 project
yeah I'd like the idea too of a mid engined micra, will keep it stock for now..good mpg :P anyways one question, has anyone weighted the bare body shell of a z32? been doing some calculation from an online nissan parts catalog and I came to the number 250kg or ~550lbs, think that aint right oh and I have a 2+2 TT let me know what you think... cheers Mark

Body on frame Z32 project
thanks for the comments guys. why not a vg?...well it's a big and heavy lump and I'm not looking for big power in this car, it's just a silly project to pass the winter time when I'm bored, and I already bought a FJ20ET for 100euros inc trans, ecu and loom and everything seems in tact, might just give it a quick rebuild and it should do the trick later I'll bump the power up a bit. And yeah I have a s14a actually and a micra and almera gti...only real logical reason that I am doing this lil project is that the Z looks fcking awesome and I just can't be arsed to keep it this heavy and with a VG, think it kinda makes sense...well no but I like challenges and if I weren't doing cars for a living I'd thrash the Z immediately and buy something else. Oh and fibreglass body is just a thought but to be honest I guess I won't bother doing it. Just a fun project thats all

Body on frame Z32 project
Hello guys, I have started a small project with my old Z that I bought some time ago that was for cheap and with a blown HG and rusted to death. Well the body was pointless to repair so I have sold the engine and suspension and had the body sitting near my shop for about a year waiting to get scrapped, but rather than that I have deciced that I could build a frame and put the suspension and engine on it and the outer panels from the Z put on it...simmilar to the body on frame cars like in the US but with a rollcage already inside. Not deciced on the bodypanels yet, just counting the weight on every single outer panel and deciding if I should keep the original or make fibreglass copies for weight saving. Currently this is what I have made: sorry bout the bad quality, anyway the bottom members and flooring is cut out and was measured so I can buy square steel pipes. Yeah steel, thought about aluminium but 1. too expencive 2. welding 3. would only save about 1/3 weight compared to steel, plus steel is more rigid. the bottom frame should be about 150kg's excluding rollcage, will see if I'll go for whole fibreglass body. Main weightsaving focus will be on doors, rear trunk, interior, engine...possibly suspension. My aim is at optimistic 1200kg's Z32, will probably get lower...no idea. Engine will be either a FJ20ET or SR20DET, FJ cause it's a really capable engine and I can get it for good money, will see as I go. But no f---ing way that I'm putting a VG back in there . First of all I'm getting the perimeter frame welded and will need suspension on it asap. Possibly a N/A z32 suspension but I'm messing with the idea of a custom z32 suspension copy and have it lightened as much as possible but in this case I'd need help from you guys for the dimensions of each arm etc :tongue_smilie: Oh and it's not going to be a track car, just a project for the upcoming winter and have it as a "weekend" car. Thanks for lookin', hit me up with any thoughts what I could do to this fcker :cool3: Cheers Mark ...oh and I'm from europe, lhd, etc...you know the drift

Repair panels - outer sills
Hey guys, I'm trying to find a company that sells outer sills or something, I did hear about some ebay repair panels from here but I can't find anything. If someone could actually point me to the right direction it would be really helpful :) I'm about to chop and weld new panels and I guess it would be easier to buy an almost direct fit panel than fabricate them from sheet metal. Any info appreciated, Thanks. Mark.

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Nah I'm not mega rich :D And yes, I thought that if I would need to sell it I could even make a profit. If a decent one is from 6k and upwards, and this one hopefully will be with no rust and a rebuilt engine and new paint job it's going to be worth far more than I will spend on it, and I hope the prices will jump sky high in a few years when people start to realize the value of this car...the reason I'm fixing it also.

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Looking at it yesterday...I saw that the shell is almost like mirrored, except the firewall obviously but that could be swaped. Everything looks symmetrical on both sides...but anyway I'm still going to try to fix this one. Oh and I just remembered...I saw many people on here mentioning ebay replacement panels but I never saw any on ebay...either I'm not searching good enough or I'm missing something.

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Yeah well if it weren't a Z but a different car I'd also say that :P Anyway I bought it for 700euro...I know it's a lot for a pile of junk like this but we have different prices back here so it was cheap, actually no one it their right mind would buy it :D. I could compare it like buying a 240Z just because it's rare and hard to come by...oh and I really wanted a Z32 :P I hope I will fix this car, it would be a shame to scrap it and after the rust is treated I hope it will last at least 10 more years. Also I own 4 more nissans...it was just a matter of time till I buy a Z :P

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Thanks guys. It's a LHD btw. And the thing is it won't be cheaper to repair this shell than to import a good one, reason is I have loads of zinc'd (dunno how you write it:P) sheet metal and my uncle said he did cars in much worse condition and it should take 4-5 days to remove and spotweld new plates, so I trust he will put up a nice job and fairly cheap. Getting a better shell would be simpler imo not really cheaper and this is my project car sooo I estimate it will take more than a year to put it back on the road but I've got loads of spare time so it does't bother me anyway :P Oh and my plans for this car is keeping a "stocker" look and possibly some engine upgrades, not really looking for huge amounts of power just improve responce, guess a BB turbo and small tweaks here and there. Remove all that unnecessary junk like HICAS, AIV, EVAP, EGR etc. and a bit of weight reduction, specificaly remove the power seats and all that heavy junk in the car interior. But I was quite surprised how light the bonnet is:) Sooo responce and power plus some weight reduction and keep it a sleeper look is my goal.

Slovakia dude :P I'll see how much plates require replacing and if it's too much I'll consider getting a better shell.

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Well actually...before I dissasembled her I couldn't lift her from the lifting points under the sills, it was bending and cracking :P Reason I decided to buy it and fix it is because it was either this or save up 6k for a little less rusted one...we do have 300zx's pretty expencive and rare too. Anyway...thanks for the replys, I hope I will be able to fix the rust...the 300zx is worth it.

Huge rust repair - My 91 TT
Hey guys, thought I start a thread about my progress with my 300zx. Well I bought it for really cheap which now I am not surprised at all :P Most would scrap this car but I have a lot of spare time and I do a lot of work on cars so I'll do most of the work by myself. The Z I bought had a blown headgasket, destroyed main bearings, busted and rusted chassis, the whole interior had fungus and mildew all over the leather seats and trimming....if this won't draw you back from buyinf it than you are as crazy as I am :cool3: Soo I started stripping the car to pieces, the engine is already out and dissasembled, interior is out also and now I'm stripping the other stuff so I'll have just the shell to work on. Did a couple of pics so feast you eyes on the rust :P Here it gets nasty... So now I'm surrounded with a huge pile of parts, I took most of them already to my warehouse like the engine and interior, want to focus on the bodywork and rust repair for now. Now my garage is pretty empty :P Well that's about it for now, just need to remove the rear suspension, fuel tank and brake lines and it's ready for repairing and welding. Hope to become a fully paid member pretty soon...:P Wish me luck lol.

Hello all you Z lovers.
Alright soo the engine is cranking, and I see white smoke comming from the radiator filler hole...so the head gasket has gone. Engine won't start tho, seems there is no compression. Hope it's just the HG not a broken cylinder head.

Hello all you Z lovers.
So brought it home today. Happy, happy :P A couple of pics. Need to replace the whole left sill, probably even the floor panels but at least I'll get rid of the rust. Fix the bodywork, And get that bloody engine started, think I have some trouble with the immobiliser that was added there, will throw it away and try to start the engine. When I turn the key I just hear the starter knocking but it's not cranking, will see tommorow when I'll have plenty of time to figure it out. Lovin' the car, it's low as foook and sooo sooo sexy :P

Hello all you Z lovers.
Thanks for the replys guys. So I guess I'm keeping the engine, don't know if I'll rebuild the whole engine or just fix it so I can drive with it...it would be the 4th nissan engine I'd disassemble to pieces which I cant be arsed anymore lol...may be next year when I gather all the parts. Oh and you might help me out, the front bumper is destroyed and I wonder where could I get this one: http://www.300zx.se/images/wallpapers/wallpaper-300zx-1.jpg Looks like the stock JDM bumper but it's a bit different, any ideas where could I get it?
