The great insurance thread 2009!
£730 on a UK Spec TT when I was hoping to get one, 21, no NCB, no claims, 8000 miles p/a, also have a motorbike but it's SD&P anyway.. Been having some really great prices with Elephant lately.

lol I dont see many, but I see more than I do ZX's! it should be a nice enough ride, looking forward to it! the hardest bit is going to be keeping myself from modding it so that I have money for the 300! It has the supra lump in it, so at least it's something I'm a bit familar with too - it should keep my happy until I change for the 300 :)

looking at this
looks like a great buy! :)

and you're all right - it's probably a blessing in disguise, if they were this trustworthy with a simple deposit, I would have had lots of fun when the gearbox went on the way home or something! (been there before!)

VERY annoyed!
nope no paperwork for the car.. I'd name the dealer if I could remember! I'll have to check my email at work.. A place in Croydon. It's funny, I've been through about 11 cars in the last 2 and a half years, and the only times I've had any problems (with either the cars, or buying the cars) is through dealers! Won't be using another one to be honest, I just don't trust the majority of em! It's frustrating because I've passed up a few bargains in the meantime waiting around for one the cars that has fallen through! the budget has taken a hit of a few hundred for travel and the deposit, plus I've had to splash out for an extra week of tickets to/from work (£30 a day!!) so I've decided to jump on a Toyota Soarer Twin turbo for now which I'm hoping to collect on the weekend. Prices are very low on them at the mo! They're pretty pacey if not as quick and as drivalbe as the ZX. Plan is to keep it until I can get a good zed which should be between a month and three, so it's not all lost :D

the car was taking in P/X at a dealership where they tend to deal in bmw's and the like

VERY annoyed!
yup, been keeping a keen eye out but nothing's dropped low enough really.. It was 4k but now is probably under half that to be brutally honest which is why I'm struggling to find anything in a turbo understandably.. found a good price on a good condition toyota soarer 2.5TT, so thinking of going for that until I have a good amount to spend on a well sorted ZX now, unless something pops up that's worth a bit of a punt / in need of some work before I get to buy it! Cheers guys, v helpful. I've got my deposit reversed (will take 3 days) and have approached him about my costs etc. I do have a receipt actually, will enclose a photocopy of it with the letter/email requesting the travel (moreso out of principle than anything!) Will let you know how I get on..

havent been able to do anything about it really - couldn't have a shouting match being I'm at work! I think I may well tell him I want my travel back at the least but I can see what they'd say about that!

VERY annoyed!
yeah will just have to hold off for a while now I suppose.. just typical though lol The salt in the wound is that I came in for between 5 and 6 am after a 4am sleep. I must be cranky!

put a deposit on a Zed finally, only to have the dealer call up and say 'someone is here giving us greif, we're going to sell it to them'. I'm so wound up, this is the third one in my budget that the seller has screwed me on in one way or another, and I'm running out of time for a car so may have to get something else. totalyl gutted / annoyed beyond beleif!! couldn't of happened on a worse day either, I came in 3 hours early to work so I could go collect it, arranged the insurance etc, only to have to get the bus back home, £100 down until it re-appears in my account, £100 down in train tickets over the three different cars, and god knows how much down for commuting to work :headvswal I was literally writing this post to ask for a couple of pointers when he called! /rant over!

seems like I had a lucky escape
I was thinking that mate, he's asked if I want it as is though. not sure if to offer to take it off his hands though as it'd need a new engine I'm guessing; not familiar with the zx's but have seen TT lumps going on ebay for £200-350.. any advice??

*well as mint as you could get for the price!

seems like I had a lucky escape
I put a deposit on a Zed that looked mint, seemed perfect and was due to pick up on thursday pending another test drive etc. Talked him down to well under £1500, so was cautious anyway; got a message today to say not to pick up as it had blown a cylinder through the side of the block! ever heard of this happening on a Zed? or did he just change his mind about selling? :( A bit gutted as I was looking forward to it despite needing a bit of work.. might have to pick up something like a volvo to do me for now as an 'emergency' car for the next few weeks :headvswal

ZX TT Insurance for 'youngsters'
Just woundering if anyone's found any good insurers? I'm just 21, no NCB (no accidents and have had cars for 3 years solid, but am stupid and keep swapping cars and have switched insurance companies where my current one didnt insure a new car eg Admiral wouldn't insure my supra for less than £4k!) and 3 years driving. I've got a quote from admiral that I'm actually v happy with, 8500 miles p/a, £670 tpft, £750 fully comp (goes up to about a grand if I pay monthly :headvswal:) with my Dad as a named driver as he wants to be able to ditch his diesel 5 series every now and then  so yeah, just woundering if anyone knows any companies that I might be able to get better with? worth checking out, no point in handing money over needlessly! Cheers

Converted km > miles..
Righto, I'm looking at buying a ZX, at a very good price in need of some work. I'm told it was imported at 86k, and now has 97 showing. Now the way that I took it, is that there are 86k km (53 or so k Miles) plus 11k miles, not that it's now showing 97k Miles. Am I right in thinking this? Normally when you convert an import, you make it register miles, but you can't change the existing? Or is it at all likely that they would have wound it back to 50k when they converted it? if the first, could mean I'm in for even more of a bargain once it's fixed up

thought I'd say hi!
Thanks all you're right, sorry I hadnt worded it too well! I've been driving round in an mg zs with about 176bhp, my supra wasn't really highly tuned, it was bpu'd to about 400bhp (cat back, remap, plugs, decat etc) which is as far as I'd go with a ZX to be honest. Not after mega power really, something that will hold up it's own against the m3's of this world, has good torque but is comfortable to cruise in. I've seen a few and one needs a bit of prettying up (paintwork, a few windows) but is also a total bargain price! It's an auto with a refurbbed box 1600 miles ago, and although I was hoping for a manual, it seems too good not to have a very good look at!

thought I'd say hi!
Hi all, I'm hopefully joining the ZX fold soon; Had a supra TT a while ago now and after driving around with a third/half the power, I think it's time I got back into something Jap and Turbo! Decided to give the zx a try as I've loved em since I was lil' and can afford the insurance now! anyway, hopefully I'll spend a while here, been scouring the site for info for a while now and it's been very helpful!

the car you should have kept
The car I've regretted selling is my supra :( miss it madly, giving the zx a try soon though - Have loved them since I was young, so can't wait to get my mitts on one :D
