It's a timer module. The company that makes it (T K Consultants) make timer module and relay modules. There should be a variable resistor on it somewhere to set the time delay. The 8 pin chip is probably a 555 timer which is the chip everyone seems to learn about first when you're studying electronics. As to what it does....... if i had to guess i'd say it was probably being used as a simple turbo timer and the button probably is a manual override if you don't want your engine to run on after for 30 secs or whatever. All this is true, but all the sensors are doing is checking if the wheel is rotating or not. If the wheel is not rotating and the others are or the ABS unit is still getting a signal from the speed sensor then it knows the wheel is locked so it releases the brake then applies it again. The ABS unit generates hydraulic pressure in accumulator units using electric motors so there is always pressure available to re-apply the brakes after it's been released due to a locked wheel. As you said you'll need greater hydraulic pressure to generate the same force with bigger calipers so it seems to me if you could raise the default static pressure that's stored in the accumulators then the ABS unit would work fine with bigger brakes. All you'd need to do is scale the pressure up to correspond with the increased surface area of the new pads. Dave

Hmmm, i think i'm not following you here. When you say the calipers do it, what do you mean? My knowledge of brake is that the calipers are the things that grip the brake disc. How would changing calipers affect any of the sensors or electronics of the ABS system? Dave

I might be being thick here but why would the type of brake discs affect the way the ABS works. As far as i know you've got sensors on each wheel to say if the wheel is spinning or locked and if it's locked when you're braking hard the ABS releases then tries braking on it again. Does the ABS unit not provide enough force to lock bigger brakes? Dave

Sounds a bit dubious to me. The first thing to try in all these sorts of issues is connect a wire to the +ve terminal of the battery and connect it to the main supply of the head unit. This connection is for testing only so just a length of 32/0.2 wire from the battery out of the engine bay, through an open window to the head unit will be fine. If this stops the interference then it's being picked up somewhere in ignition circuit wiring and your options are to run a fuse connection directly from the battery to behind the head unit (easy) or try and correct the interference by adding a capacitor between the supply line and chassis earth (hard). If you still get interference with the direct connection then try adding a capacitor between the main supply line and chassis ground to create a supply filter. A good value to start with would be a 100uF electrolytic capacitor and tune it from there. Dave

Hi, Anybody know the location of the control unit for the electric HICAS system. I know on the hydraulic versions it's mounted near the ECU but on mine there's nothing next to the ECU. Any ideas? Dave

Hi, I've just bought my first Z from stenorth (everything going smootly so far Ste. Lower gaiter had come off gearstick and so was a bit noisy in 2nd but that's all back on now and working well ;). The car has the stock Nissan 16" BBS alloys and i'm planning on putting a couple of new tyres on the rear. The tyres on there at the moment are 225/50/16' same as the fronts. I've read in some websites that the rears sometimes take 245/45/16's on the twin turbos. Should i consider a slightly bigger tyre on the rears or just keep everything standard? Cheers Dave

Hi, I'm currently looking at a jap spec 1996 Z and was wondering if anyone knows how i find out if it has OBD-II installed. The reason i'm asking is i'm planning on putting a car-pc in it and the software has a feature where you can read OBD-II information. Thought it might be nice.... Cheers Dave
