Drivers Side Boost solenoid Removal
Hi Guys, I need to remove the stock boost solenoid in order to get to the turbo water pipes beneath it. How should I go about this? The bolts on the bracket mounting it to the chassis don't seem to want to move. I have no idea about the little screws holding the solenoid itself onto the bracket and I'm a bit wary of trying to disassemble the solenoid anyway. By the way, what is the chunk of machinery it shares the mounting with? cheers chris

M4 Overheat
I can barely see the pipe in question from the top, let alone get some replacement hose on it:cursing: I'm not confident about taking other bits off to get to it, particularly as one bit would appear to be the braking system! I was rather hoping that someone would be able to tell me what it was and how you get to it :) If I have the correct part, at least I won't be buggering about trying to cut pipe to right length and then twisting it into a pretzel to make it fit. I do have a jack and stands to lift the front, but I'll be working in the street and that's a little worrying for me, too. Drivers round my way are likely to reverse over my legs :death: Yes, I'm a coward.

M4 Overheat
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I've had another poke around this afternoon, and it seems that there is a water leak from a downpipe on the drivers side of the engine. I don't know what it is and can't find a handy photo guide to use, but it's one of two pipes below the brake fluid reservoir. Could it be part of the stuff that gets removed during the plenum water bypass operation? I had a look at Jeff's piccy guide, but can't really place my pipe. If anyone can give me a clue about what it is and where I might get a replacement (more usefully, let me know the part number) I'd appreciate it!

M4 Overheat
Hi Guys, Me and the Zed got stuck in a traffic jam and after about 40 minutes the (stock) temp gauge suddenly hit the top stop! I pulled onto the hard shoulder, turned the car off and watched plumes of smoke come out from the bonnet. After getting home on the back of the AA truck, I discovered that I have plenty of coolant in the rad and no burst hoses. I started the car and let it run for a bit as it sounded fine. Suddenly, there's odd noises (bubbly spurty sounds) and oil smoke coming from the drivers side of the engine. I can't spot the source of the oil leak and pressure seems OK. Any ideas what might have popped?

I hope that's measuring fahrenheit and not centigrade!

fuel flap cable adjustment
Hi Guys, can anyone tell me how to adjust the cable tension on the fuel flap release? Through a bizarre accident the cable has stretched or pulled off of a mount somewhere. End result - the catch won't disengage. Makes refueling very difficult

anyone into renewable energy
Currently, I'd be worried about the bit in the sales pitch down the page: "when is it ever -5C outside ALL DAY long?"! From a quick perusal of wikipedia, I'd say that unless you already have a highly energy efficient home (cavity wall, triple glazing etc) you're going to find that you don't actually get enough heat out of it.

To be honest, I think I'd prefer that over a clueless garage with their jack :cursing:

Burst Heater pipe?
Right, I've decided to try the temp fix 'cos none of the parts places are talking to me. So, I've got the top of the bust hose off, but I can't get an angle on the screw on the bottom clip with the long screwdriver and the flex-neck can't get enough pressure to shift it. Anyone got any ideas or clever 'trade tricks'? There are two things to bear in mind: it's cold, dark and raining outside at the moment, and this is the first time I've used a screwdriver on the car. Ever :)

Burst Heater pipe?
Cheers guys, I'll see if the local Nissan dealer has any pipes in stock (if they're open!), failing that, I'll try the jury-rig and wear lots of thick jumpers

Thanks for the feedback Andy. I've attached a slightly wider image, I hope it's enough for you to work with.

Burst Heater pipe?
Hi Guys, is this one of the heater pipes? What are the chances of me getting it fixed before New Year? Does it require the skills of Jeff or D2 to mend or can I get my local mechanic to fit a replacement part? Where can I get the part from very very quickly? (I really don't want to have to take the train to Newcastle at New Year :scared:) Chris

Nokia N97
I've got an N97, and although there are some irritations, I rather like it. The biggest single gripe is that some of the keys lack decent feedback, so you have to really pay attention to what you're typing (although given what some people manage to type on this forum using a full 'puter keyboard this shouldn't be an issue ). The other disappointment is the sound quality through the speakers (headphones are fine). Most of my other issues are software related and given that Nokia are releasing a full version upgrade of the operating system this month, I think it would be unfair to use current problems with the OS as a basis for choosing/not choosing the phone. Battery life is good - for a smartphone - if you remember to turn off the bluetooth and wifi when you're not using them. I can easily get two days calling, surfing and listening to music. The camera is probably as good as any out there - with the exception of the 8mega-pixel phones and, to be honest, if you really want to take pictures at that sort of resolution, get a bloody camera! Build quality is excellent and the action of the slide screen is a joy to play with. Being a symbian-based phone, there are still more apps available than for the iphone, although they don't look as 'cool'. Nokia are working on an app store to match Apple's, but this doesn't really seem to be taking off yet. If you do decide to get one, I'd recommend looking at T-Mobile. I love their web'n'walk data plans - I was able to use my phone as a broadband modem for online gaming without worrying about surprise bills :)

Pre or post 1998 Gearbox
So what sort of money are we looking at for a rebuild of the box then? I'm getting annoyed with the 4th gear crunching so was looking at a 98 replacement. Nor bothered about handling massive power, just want the bloody thing to change smoothly.

Engine builders. help please
Really sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations, it does sound like they're trying it on. One thing that I would suggest, if you are going to send out that email, is to remove all references to being stung, them taking too much time and all the rest. You need to ask for your estimates in as neutral a way as possible, to avoid accusations of bias. (It's not as if people aren't going to guess there's a dispute, but there's no point in handing ammo to the opposition) I'd really look into contacting the ieae (contact details http://guideto.iaea.org.uk/contact.htm) as Uno suggests, this is exactly the sort of thing they're around for. Hope you manage to get a bit further this time around!
