I'm pretty sure it's not my PCV's and I hope its not the turbos...! Can you let me know what Zedworld think? Much appreciated! As I said, I'm only getting smoke from nearside exhausts...rather confusing and concerning! Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Can I stop (my 300zx) smoking?!
Hi all, My 300ZX has a minor oil burning problem but I don't know from where! If she is started, taken for a run straight away and isn't in stop/start traffic, there is no problem. But if she is left on tickover from cold start, or is in slow stop/start traffic from start, inevitably I get an embarrassing plume of white smoke emitted from the exhaust! Seems to only be from one side too... I've recently had the 2 filters in the front wings replaced, the PCVs were done about 7K miles go so it shouldn't be them, and I'm assuming the mechanics put the right oil in when it last had an oil and filter change (about 1500 miles ago). Also it isn't smoking all the time which would indicate worn piston rings? I am at a loss to know why oil is burning off and from where. Could it be worn turbo seals? If so, how much to replace? Also another problem is that the clutch slips a little when I really floor it. I take it that the clutch is just worn and on its way out? Appreciate any help! Tim

Yes, turbo guage goes to +14 / -14. It is UK spec for sure, checked VIN details etc - thanks for the help!

Yes, it is UK spec, the VIN is 17 number and I have checked it out with regards to ID features in the 300zx online manual. Phew! Anyone recommend the best dump valves and best price? (Baileys twin BOV's & fitting kit £225 is the best I've found so far) Cheers!

Thanks so much, spoke to DTA, very helpful - will get the Apexi for £67 its a bargain and much better than the HKS rubbish! Cheers! I can see myself visiting them alot....and a hole burning in my wallet.....

...but it has the headlamp washers! Its a mixed up car lol! Does anyone know if HKS do a better mushroom filter, I took mine out to clean it and it disintegrated.....hmm.

Not sure whats been going on with mine then, as the indicators are on the outside and the fogs in the middle, so it looks like the Jap set up....?!

turbo guage has -14 / +14 either side and the speedo goes to 180mph, UK spec! thanks for the help, the lights have been changed (upgraded reflectors) but they probably are UK spec headlights. I thought the chap who had it before me said they were Jap ones....what's the difference? I am pretty certain it was supplied in silver from new registration, so they must have done the UK 300zx in silver - I'll dig out the v5 and supply a chassis number, that will confirm!

It is UK spec, but bumpers / kit obviously aftermarket. The headlights are upgraded Jap spec units with better reflectors, and fogs etc also Jap spec I think. I'll check the V5, you have me concerned!

why thank you kind laydeee. I like it. Alot. I dont really need to do anything to it, its a UK spec Twin Turbo manual, 98K, thousands of ££ in bills receipts, cam belts done 4K miles ago including waterpump etc and its pleeeeeenty fast enough! Scary in the wet. any suggestions on what to look out for with things going wrong....?

thanks for your help, got the pics up, hope you like! will be asking alot of Q's regarding best mods etc, she is pretty standard apart from a chip upgrade, bespoke S/S exhaust (bigger than stock pipes), strut brace, uprated discs and pads and the antera alloys (£1700 worth!) more to follow.....

thanks yous lot! first off I might put some of that stuff that 'swells' the gaskets into my oil (can't remember the name of it), I've used it before to give gaskets a bit of a new lease of life and it won't do any harm even if it doesn't cure it. I did suspect valve seals but I hope its not that.... but yes, I'll not leave her idling on cold from now on. I'll post pics and the spec up soon, she is in beautiful condition everything works as it should and somebody is going to want to buy my number plate....D300X!! Got my first 300ZX twin turbo just before Xmas, loving it. Had the 200SX previously. Slight query, if left on tickover on first starting, she burns oil / smokes until I pull away and everything heats up. After this, no smoke whatsoever. Therefore I'm not sure whether its worn rings as she would smoke all the time? Or is this the early signs?? Could it be turbo gasket on way out? Any help much appreciated.....pics to follow soon.
