Auto box
As posted before, my auto box is fooked, I was driving down the Mway (about 70 ish) when the revs suddenly went up, I realised my overdrive had stopped working. traveled another 10 miles and pulled into a car park. Tried to reverse and it was like my back wheels had locked up and wouldnt reverse. couldn't go forward so had no choice but to wellie it and the car did move backward jerkily jumping off the ground I think something must have snapped inside the box. set off forward and 1st and 2nd gear sounded like 2 pieces of metal being rubbed together (a bit like the noise you would get if you had no brake pads and it was metal on metal) when it eventually got into 3rd (would only change by stabbing at the accelerator) it run fine. got to a mates house and checked the fluid level. was a little bit low so topped up. Tried reverse and nothing at all! no matter how much I revd the engine, left the car overnight then drove it 45 miles home, same problem with 1st and 2nd, normal running in 3rd. 3 days later needed to go somewhere urgent so drove the car, it kept stalling untill the engine was a bit warm. Now obviously there is something seriously wrong but would it be repairable with a recondition. Im having serious problems locating a box and realy dont want to convert to manual. can you still buy a brand new box from nissan? any help would be appreciated. Oh for a few weeks before I had a flashing power light on start up but didnt realise this was a diagnostic thing so never bothered counting the flashes.

another autobox or manual?
My auto box is truly goosed, Ive got a noisy 1st and 2nd (sounds like someone has taken all the brake pads off my car and replaced them with industrial grade sandpaper) No reverse and no overdrive. got a couple of quotes off Phil in Astley. £140 to change, and £500 to convert, both plus VAT

Gearbox problems
Ive checked the level of the fluid and it was a bit low so I topped it up in te hope that it was just a low level causing the problem but when I first engaged the reverse it really did sound really nasty. Any idea on fitting price. I wish the more technical replies would hurry up I want to go to bed!!!

UK Speedo
Ive also noticed that when I first start the engine of a morning the power light flashes for about 5 seconds before it goes out, dont know if this means anything
-
UK Speedo
Yes the reverse gear problem was after the clock change, surely they cant be linked, and the problem wasn't immediate, I really cant understand the gearbox thing there was no reason for all that to happen at once

Gearbox problems
Probably a bit soon but BUMP!

UK Speedo
No mate, not a thing, really can't understand this at all it obviously did cut out with the KPH clocks but I didn't really take too much notice of the exact speed, so I need to re chip the ecu then? any ideas on the rev counter?
-
UK Speedo
well this is definitely cutting out at 96. and I thought just changing the clocks would fix it, if its the ECU what do I need to do to stop it doing this
-
UK Speedo
I have a jap import which had a KPH clock in it, I changed it for a MPH clock and I was told that this simple change would mean I wouldnt have to get a de-restricting thingy for the capped top speed. But funny things have happend...the rev counter seams to give an average reading and doesnt increase and decrease when you rev the engine, Ive mentioned in another thread that my overdrive stopped working the engine note changed immediately as it would but it took a good 3 minutes for the rev counter to go from 2000 to 3000 revs. and the damn thing is still restricted! the car will accelerate smoothly and rapidly but when it gets to about 96mph the engine cuts out untill your speed has dropped, anyone any ideas? the original speedo had had the bypass done to stop the chimes but besides that everything was standard thanks Fred

Gearbox problems
Was out on the Mway yesterday doing about 70mph when the revs suddenly shot up, it turned out the overdrive had stopped working. I carried on to my destination, came off the Mway and pulled into a supermarket car park to get fags, I was trying to manouver to park and put the shifter in reverse...the car didnt move so I give quite a lot of extra gas and the car juddered backwards (the best way to explain this is it felt and sounded like the exhaust had fell off and was digging into the road stopping proper movement. I then set off and as the box changed up through the gears 1st and 2nd had the same sound as if youve worn your brake pads away and are running metal on metal. the only gear that sounded 'normal' was 3rd. Got to my destination and now have no reverse whatsoever. Might sound like a totaly dumb question but is my gearbox knackered (And what exactly happened) and if so where could I pick up a decent second hand one, about how much and how much for fitting? Oh and ive heard the place to take it is a place in Astley, can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks in advance Fred
