i was lucky enough to get a tailgate from a member who was breaking (one of) his Zs. the tailgate had an aftermarket spoiler. its amazing how much lighter the new tailgate is compared to 'the sponge'. it usually works out cheaper to get hold of the whole tailgate second hand if you can find one, depending on what spoiler is attached. my bodyshop charged me about £250 to paint and swap tailgates.

Just picked her up this afternoon. All the accident damage has been fixed, and Jay's tailgate is painted and attached :bow: Its amazing how much lighter the 'new' tailgate weighs compared to the old damp spongy one! the guys have done a cracking job again. almost done: just need a new tyre, refurb the alloys and get her through an MOT :eek: mental note: dont play kiss chase with roundabouts. :nono: shat myself on the way home from the bodyshop tho. i noticed a faint trace of blue smoke when i started her up, and while i was driving. oil pressure was reading 0 all the time too whether in gear or in neutral. heart dropped about 10 feet. boost was fine tho. decided to open her up when i had the chance, and after a very satisfying P-TSSSSHHHHH there was no more blue smoke and the oil gauge suddenly woke up. :nana2: (lazy sh!t)

if your seals were on their way out, they will go quickly. if they were fine before, they'll stay fine. like Glenn says, just have the cash handy :eek: but most people will say they did the job and nothing untoward happened. im glad to say im one of the lucky ones too (touch wood)

apparently its better to have auto tubbies in a manual - something to do with quicker spool-up i think. but basically at the end of the day its nothing noticeable and all cars are different anyway.

performancewise, the auto is supposedly slightly slower to 60 but slightly faster to 100. powerwise, its been an ongoing argument as to whether there's a difference in bhp or not. i had mine converted from auto to manual and ive not really noticed any difference in power or performance. it does however make it a totally different driving experience IMO. at the end of the day if you do need to convert and do notice worse performance (highly unlikely) then just whack the boost up or shove some jets in ;) job done

used to be a class B rally car before they changed the rules to make the sport safer (ie to lower the fatality rate :( ). looks hideous but unbelievably quick.

i bust the original clip when i pulled off the standard pillar :p bugger wouldnt come out! i think if i can cut some rubber to the right size and shape, slip it into the square hole so it's secure, then shove a screw into it then im onto a winner. watch this space :eek: :eek: :eek:
