Hey everyone. I've not frequented these parts much for the last couple of years so many of the members won't know me or the car. However having completed the wide body zed with full retrim and AV around 2004, I took her apart to make some improvements and never got finished. A combination of working away and now some unfortunate developments in my personal life its time to pass her on to someone else.
This was one of the wide body conversions done by PPS in North East and won runner up for best car, best install and best interior at JAE (I still have the fetching steering wheel trophies). I was only there one day so I think we had a good shout at the title if I'd been there all weekend. Obviously I would say this but she is/was an absolute beaut - I have spent thousands of pounds and thousands of hours on her over the years but she needs a little bit of TLC and I've just not got the time any more.
So ...
Basics:
300zx Z32 TT Targa
1995 M-reg
JDM
c80k miles
Was silver, but resprayed to Daytona Blue (350Z colour).
Exterior:
- Full wide body conversion
- Respray in Daytona Blue
- "Viper" front bumper. I was first or second of the production line for this front end
- Quad tail lights
- Mirrored inserts in headlights
- Project Khan 19" wheels with yokahama tyres
Interior
- Full black leather with blue stitch and blue alcantara retrim, including door cards, seats, and full dash.
- Cobra front seats maintaining electric slide for driver side
- Custom trio of body coloured gauge pods embedded in dashboard.
- Targa covers and rear blind are intact.
- Custom EL clocks (although the transformer has gone on them - see below)
- Momo Millenium Evo steering wheel
- Razo brushed aluminium gear knob
Electronics. Over£3k of AV plus loads of custom stuff:
- Pioneer in-dash screen with DVD/SatNav under arm.
- Custom ipod/iphone slot in centre console allowing video/audio and charging from iPhone (although for the older pre-iphone5 connector)
- Custom switchgear and illumination
- Air con moved to centre console and all switches and buttons replaced with brushed steel with halo blue lighting
- High end Focal speakers and tweeters fitted into a-pillars.
- Pheonix Gold amps for speakers and subs.
- Twin subwoofer pods in boot - but subs are not being sold.
- Sigma M series alarm
- HKS Turbo Timer
Performance/Mechanical. I forget now what the technical changes where but they included:
- Replacement exhaust (need to try and find the details but was the best twin pipe system I could find at the time)
- Adjustable spring/shock (eibach I think but I will try and find out)
- Clutch/Flywheel (RPS/Fidanza I think but again will need to dig out the details)
- A'pexi intake
- Powertrix adjustable upper front arms
- Uprated discs and pads.
- I also had the twin intake from smithy but removed it as the way I had fitted it was rattling.
Now the bad bits ...
She hasn't been taxed/tested since 2006! I took the car off the road to re-do some of the work that had been done previously (mostly electronics). Unfortunately I also got married, had 2 kids and started a career path of working away all week (not related to previous points!) just after that and have never managed to get the work finished.
Car has been kept most of this time in an industrial unit I rent and I have started her and driven round the estate regularly. She starts first time and runs very well. I moved her up to the house recently to try and get the job done there but I am realising that its just not going to happen. Someone with more time will make an awesome job of finishing her off.
So the work to be completed off the top of my head:
- brakes have stopped working - from the look of it, its the master cylinder gone (has the tell-tale signs of rust on the housing). I believe this is a fairly straightforward job.
- handbrake cable has stretched as I have been using this to stop the car when pulling in and out of the garage since the brakes stopped working. Probably just needs to be adjusted but would probably replace it.
- I had some custom brushed steel dash panels made up to replace the body coloured panels that were made initially. These need to be bent into shape and installed however the body coloured panel could be used easily enough.
- Clocks need to be repaired or replaced. They have had the resistor change made to read MPH but the transformer for the after market EL gauges broke and so the clocks are currently out of the car.
- There seems to be a problem with passenger side door lock in that power lock opens it but does not close it.
- Door cards need to be re-fitted. The Passenger door card to be fitted once door lock issue is fixed. The Driver door card was off as I modified the driver door card so that it has a pull handle (alcantara trimmed obviously) to match the passenger side instead of the coin tray door pull. The handle is from a LHD zed. The bracket is on the door and this should be a straightforward fit but some regluing of the leather required as I had to peel it back a bit in order to cut the door handle holes in the door.
- Passenger side a-pillar clip has broken off and needs replacing.
- The custom gauges in the dash. The Boost is working but the others (oil temp and water temp) are not. The wire that was run to the temp sensors looks to have come off the crimp connector. Should be a simple job but looking at the state of the wire I'd be tempted to run a new length through the firewall and back to the
- The rubber along bottom of driver door has a small split in it. It looks like someone at some point has tried to steal it at some point. I have a replacement rubber that I have never got round to fitting.
- The two short rubber trims that run from rear of targa tops to boot lid are missing. Again I have replacement rubbers that I have never got round to fitting.
- The alcantara handbrake gator I had made with the retrim has split. I have a leather one that I got with the car which could be used but a replacement blue alcantara one would look best.
She sounds like a shed I know, but genuinely isn't and turns heads even as she is now. I am sitting on an offer of £1500 to be broken for parts which would kill me so am looking for someone to fix her up and enjoy.
Obviously as the car is without MOT/Tax it would need to be transported. There is someone I have used previously who is near to me and I am happy to get a price but buyer would need to pay transport.
I will try and get some of the above done in the next couple of days and get some better photos, but here are a couple to whet your appetite:
