  1. Ok matey, see below the new after screen shots today on our ConZult. Of course the afm was responsible for the 2.5k rpm rev cut but the retarded ignition and throttle inbalance was playing havoc with the hyrdocarbons which in turn was giving huge peaks at the O2 sensor as the system was trying to compensate. The spark plugs are a less of an issue other than the little hicups they cause but. Shame about your little detour on the way home but now its running ok getting the air lock out should not be to much trouble, another possibilty is badly seated rad cap, (will explain how to check in your e-mail) Good to meet you today Jeff TT 1 Faulty afm 2 Throttle balance incorrect 3 Ignition timing 13 deg retarded 4 Base idle set wrong 5 Wrong spark fitted ( Bosch city plugs )
  2. You could say that :D Jeff TT
  3. That will be a 27mm bolt......Ian!!! Jeff TT
  4. BINGO!!!!! Well done, the clutch unit is a rather special one often used on Skylines and comes with a shortened nose section, someone clearly forgot to fit it and so when the damage was later found the owner did not know this and replaced it again with a standard one. The damage was been done when the gearbox was fitted, the owner later told us that when he fitted the box up he had to use long bolts in the bellhousing to pull it together!!! the clue something was wrong was there all of the time, oddly even when the Skyline specialist fitted it...tut tut! Nice one hellraiser:clap: Jeff
  5. Close...... another clue the clutch unit and flywheel had been fitted by a Nissan Skyline specialist. Jeff
  6. Clue......lightweight flywheel fitted. Jeff TT
  7. Yes they do look horrid don`t they, we always use the twin turbo one even on non turbo because they look weak to us. Jeff
  8. Its a non turbo release bearing, and yes its an after market clutch. Jeff
  9. Ok here is a fun one for you, customer removed his own gearbox when rebuilding his engine, was surprised to find the damage you can see in the pics, so he replaced the front gearbox section ( the new silver bit) when unfortunately the box was removed again ( another issue) he was disappointed to find the damage had occurred again, so hence we ended up with the task of finding the cause and the cure, so ok guys get guessing. Will add more details / clues as we go on. Jeff TT
  10. Copper grease is fine, we actually use silver grease which has a higher melting point we use on the back of brake pads so have it on the shelf. Jeff TT
  11. Just release the lower cooler pipe where it enter`s the gearbox on the drivers side, the fluid can then darin slowly and can be caught in a suitable container with out to much fuss, once the level is low enough if you wish to remove the sump you can then without getting too messy. The stainer can be removed and cleaned with the sump removed, and remember to replace the sump gasket. Jeff tt
  12. Gear selection problems can be caused by many issues but one that seems to rear its head occasionally is pivot ball failure. For many years now up-rated ones have been available and usually come part of upgrade kits, we always advise fitting these as part of any change upgrade or standard as its not worth the hassle later. So here is a classic pivot ball failure with a little twist in the tail, the ball head breaks away but is often kept in place by the retaining clip, as a result the breakage can go unnoticed for a while however every time the clutch is depress the ball head is mashed in to the remaining pivot shaft until the lever arm slips sideways. In this case the input splines were very dry as was the crankshaft bearing, this had destroyed the spigot bearing and now the whole unit was compromised with the lever arms tilting over when the clutch was depressed and causing the release bearing to meet the cover plate at an angle. All of this had damage from one small pivot ball, luckily in these case the clutch itself had been spared from any damage, due to the fact that the spigot bearing, bearing carrier and pivot ball were all dry suggests poor fitting practise when the clutch was last fitted, beware !!! Jeff TT
  13. Originally £30+vat however now there has been someone messing about in there its likely that we may need to start again re-doing their work as well as sorting the original issues so it may be a bit more...but not £188 worth thats for sure! Jeff TT
  14. A simple autobox replacement a couple of weeks go went wrong from the offset, the customer wanted to supply his own unit he had purchased on ebay and packed into his zed and set off . However with his limited gears the engine was revving high for the relative road speed and soon an additional problem with a leaking water pipe forced him to stop and call the AA, they dually recovered the car off to us the following day. However when we removed the replacement gearbox from the boot we were shocked how someone could sell a gearbox in such a bad state. All the external sensors where missing, as was the dipstick, the shift lever assembly, no torque convertor and worse of all wiring loom had been cut off close to where it enters the gearbox. Fortunately we had a good unit on the shelf with a torque convertor so was able to quickly complete the job along with a new heater matrix pipe. So the moral of this tale is that some people do not have any morals, £150 for a useless gearbox, be careful when buying from ebay or where ever, especially if it is something you not familiar with. 15. Classic  Jeff
  16. New ConZult results. 1 ) So taking the later screen the Injector pulse is still Too high 2 ) The IACV-AAC/V is too high should be 15% at 80c 3 ) A/F Alpha has changed slightly ( leaner ) but still a touch low for a standard chip. should be 109% with standard chip. 4 ) The end screen showing the base idle setting check was done when the engine temp was too low (36c), all settings that are adjustable need to be monitored and altered (if required) only when the engine is up to working temp (80c ) the cold running system interfered with the any readings and so cannot be included in the tests. The overall engine set up has changed slightly, but the surging revs etc. does point to the engine still not been set up properly yet.I would hazard a guess that the base idle has been adjusted by altering the throttle balance rather than the base idle screw, that is why the IACV-AAC/V remains too high and why you still have the rev surging issue, there is a possibility that the IACV-AAC/V is not functioning correctly, due to either a bad connection or a failed unit, its worth checking the yellow connector as sometimes they come adrift if the spring clip is missing. The injector pulse remains the area of most concern, it seems to be slightly higher now than before which points to more throttle imbalance causing the engine to be running rich, a failing AFM ( drifting) can cause a similar set of readings and unfortunately its likely that you still have more than one issue with the set up. Jeff TT
  17. Jeeeezzz!!! how is it non 300zx specialist garage can charge more than a dedicated 300zx specialist?? and give misleading information to boot. Do the ConZult tests again and post the screen shots, be very interesting to see what they look like now.:whistling: Jeff TT
  18. Eh??? Jeff TT
  19. Ah yes forgot the spring, hang on will do an edit wait a sec. Jeff TT
  20. Hi Andy, Hopefully the quick drawing below shows how it should look. [/img] Jeff
