  1. Meant to ask you this already. Have you had to mod the bonnet at all or does it all go under? Also, how much work needed on the sump?
  2. What's this for? It's the one just in front of the fuel tank. I can't see it does any heat shielding or anything. Maybe a stone guard for the tank? Is it ok to junk it?
  3. Thanks chaps. Power? I've had big cams etc in the past and whilst they are exciting for 5% of the time, the rest of the time they are a pain, so with this engine I wanted a very mild cam, no jerking or misfiring, loads of low down grunt, and then boost the top end with the supercharger. It was coming together nicely too, until the pistons blew. They went at about 5500rpm and around 450fwhp. It was putting out 7psi when it went. They say the s/c will go to 20psi but wouldn't like to try it! To be honest the Granada felt unbelievable just before it blew, so I think 500fwhp ought to be enough. I've learnt engine tuning is all about trade-offs, you gain here, but you lose there. The s/c seems to be all gain tho. Would probably try twin turbos if I didn't already have the s/c. I've never really been into 0-60 times etc, to me real performance is where you are already doing 70 say, and then boot it. Thats where the real grunt comes in and the Scoobies etc get left in a pile of dust.I just managed to get an in gear time in before engine blew. This is in 4th gear, and it did 70-100 in 3.8sec. Gear ratio is 21mph/1000rpm.
  4. Yeah I'm sure it'll fit. Loads of room!
  5. Not much at the minute, too much boost and crap pistons = hole! Putting Eagle crank and rods in with hypereutectic pistons. Had a water injection system to stop detonation but it failed just at the wrong time. Rest is mild supercharger friendly cam, Trick Flow heads, roller rockers, big wing sump, new ZZ4 block, steel flywheel etc
  6. Just want to see if I can upload pics the same as my last forum. This is the engine out of my old Cossy Granada. It's a Chevy 383 (6.3) stroker with a Vortech supercharger. I just bought the s/c as a spare part and made all the brackets and pulleys etc to fit. The plan is to drop this in my newly aquired Z over the coming winter. The injection system was a Holley Commander but I had to sell this to fund the Z purchase, but now I know how to build/map injection stuff I'll probably make my own next time and run it with the Emerald ecu. Engine fits on a Tremec TKO500 box. Ok, try putting the pic in.....[/img]
  7. Try the Vortech website for superchargers, presume you mean centrifugal type. I've just fitted one to my Chevy and I'm quite pleased with it. (I'm not easily pleased)
  8. Wideband sensors are no use in place of a narrowband sensor. The output voltages are different and the ecu has to be able to read and use the wideband info. I had one as a stand alone item, showing a/f ratios on a gauge when I mapped my ecu. Then later on I reprogrammed the ecu so the wideband sensor controlled the mixture also. There are a few cars using them as standard now and pretty soon most new cars will have them. That's why the price has plummeted over the last few years. As a stand alone extra, with the gauge, they are a brilliant tuning tool. Dead accurate and instant readout with no delay.
  9. Just get a fairly big resistor and it will do fine. You can't get one too big. Even a 17 watt one is only 60p. Use one each side.
  10. Is this Nippon in Derby? That's where I bought my Z from last week. They seem genuine and they did everything they said they would do. Matt is the best bloke to talk to. Had a look round the stores, got a right load of stuff there. Didn't see much in the way of engine overhaul facilities tho.
  11. On a more practical note, before I bought my Z, last week, I spent months as a guest on this forum just reading the new questions and the archived stuff. Even tho' most of it isn't relevant at the time, it's a great way to learn.
  12. Sorry mate, only havin' a larf. :D
  13. What's a chain?
  14. What's a hose clip?
  15. ZX Haz, Ive had only Fords for 28 years. Got my Z last week. Ok, nothings gone wrong with it yet but my initial impressions are that these are in a different league to the fast ford stuff. Much better build quality and better materials, and more thought gone into it's design. Can't see me having another Ford. Seem a bit tin pot now. ( I realise z's are £30k new tho)
  16. Just took the centre trim off the hatchback and found a long steel weight hanging in a rubber suspension system, in a steel bracket. Is it just an elaborate weight or does it do something special. ( Another 1kg saved )
  17. Just a quickie, I want to put a manual immobiliser switch into the fuel pump circuit. Have got the plate off inside the boot and there are 5 wires going into the tank. Anyone know which ones are for the pump, I'm assuming the pump is in the tank. It's a 94 jap n/a, ta.
  18. I've been reading what people prefer as their front/rear tyre pressures, but one thing has always puzzled me. If the pressure is there to support the wieght of the car then why does the wider rear tyre need more pressure in it than the front? Even with a 50/50 front/rear weight split then the rear would need less pressure as it's acting over a larger area???
  19. On a pre-engaged starter the motor won't turn unless the selenoid has pushed the gear into position into mesh with the flywheel teeth. Hence it's name. The problem will be either starter loose and come out of position, worn or missing teeth on the flywheel, or the one way sprag clutch on the starter gear will be slipping. I had the same on another car last week, where it was the 3rd option.
  20. Got my zed, subscription cheque in post, need to start planning. My aim is to have, maybe not THE fastest, but one of the fastest around. Engine is ready in the garage, small block Chevy, 6.3litre stroker, Vortech supercharger, water/methanol injection. Was in my Granada till I blew the pistons. Was gradually increasing the boost when the pistons went. Got to 7psi which is probably about 450fwhp. Will be able to get an intercooler in this time. No room in Granny. This fits into a Tremec TKO500 5 speed box. Question is, what else will need upgrading? Someone on here said the tt diff would take 1000bhp? What about the prop?Anyone broke one of these? The shell doesn't seem very stiff either. Anyone gone completely mad and welded up the targa tops or stiffened the shell any other way? Ta!
  21. He says he'll pay wotever it costs. Obviously if it costs £500 then he won't want it, but I have no idea at the moment where to start looking.
  22. 300ZXn/a arrives tomorrow. Need to clear some garage space. Sold a back axle on ebay last night, but now got to post it to Sweden. Any ideas how to do this, or who to contact?
  23. That was a reply to previous post.....
  24. Yes I realise that, but 47, clean licence, full ncb, standard car, 3000 miles, kept in garage, living in the suburbs? It surely doesn't get any better than that?
