Autobox, odd problem
Does this particular symptom ring any bells? Driving about 70mph, box is in 4th (overdrive) at about 3000rpm, then for no reason it changes to 3rd and revs obviously shoot up, then after about 2 secs it changes to 4th again. It keeps doing this about every 10 secs. Fluid level appears to be ok and looks new. Ta.

Some interesting stuff….
Just had a look and ordered some of that ultra glaze polish stuff. Hope it's as good as they say cos I hate washing black cars all the time.

Friday, type "Pallet delivery" on ebay, and this place comes up, I think it's Fastforward. I was going to use them but didn't need to in the end.

Supercharged 300zx
Bantambunny, yes, Mk3 black cosworth saloon. Did a write up when the first engine went in, and car was featured on front cover of the mag. Never got a single bit of feedback off anyone after tho' so left the club.

Supercharged 300zx
Pic of engine just before it blew. Unfortunately, in my panic, I hit the delete button on the performance meter I was using during the run, so don't know what car was pulling, power wise, when it melted. I had to mount the throttle body on the side of the plenum in the Granada, but will get it in front in the z. The best engine to use would be the Chevy LS1 which came after mine. These are all alloy and 380bhp in some variants as standard, but I have too much invested in my engine now. My plan has always been to build a car which is devastatingly quick, but my wife could drive it to the hairdressers and hardly notice she was in a supercar. My mates reckon it can't be done, and after 6 years trying I was starting to believe them. The more power I got, the more tempremental the car became. But then I put a softer cam in and bolted the supercharger on and now I think it can be done still. ie. mild cam, small overlap, wide lobe centres = bags and bags of low down torque, then 10 or 12 psi of boost should be somewhere in the 550-600bhp range.[/img]

Supercharged 300zx
Thanks both. Got pics but they're when the engine was in my Cosworth Granada. Just bought the Z and am waxoyling it and getting rid of all the rattles/niggles 1st. Then will whip engine out and drop chevy in. Similar job to mantav8's but with the supercharger. Not sure about torque. Would guess about 350ft/lbs at 2000rpm, 450 @ 3000, and 500 @ 4000, something like that. Maybe a bit more. Will run it at 10psi in the Z. Had no intercooler in the Granny, but now I've got more room will fit one, and will fit water injection so I can use full timing advance. To my mind it's the area under the torque curve which is important, not a high horsepower peak figure. I suppose the performance figures will tell in due course which is the best way. The biggest problem with lots of low down grunt is getting the tyres to grip. Am hoping the z will be a lot better than Granada with this. Had a 0-60 figure of 5.2 before supercharger, and 5.2 after. Once the wheels are spinning I suppose 10,000 extra horsepower still wouldn't be any quicker.

Supercharged 300zx
As above, on the torque thing, I drove a few turbo motors before deciding on a v8 conversion in my last car. The kick in the pants thing is quite nice when the turbos wind up but decided to go for cc's instead. Ran 5.7 litres for a bit, got fed up, stroked it to 6.3 and gas flowed it etc, got fed up with that, fitted vortech supercharger at 6psi, mmmmm, getting interesting........ upped boost to 8psi, bloody hell! getting a bit too interesting, went up another psi and pistons blew. Rebuilding now ready to drop in new Z. Point is, the motor pulled like a train from almost idle revs, it's completely different to mid sized engines with turbos. Not saying one way is better than the other but have you seen the amount of kit you can get per £ for yank motors. Just bought 8 Keith Black pistons for £190. Starting to ramble, going now.

Diff and driveshafts
Yes, changing it for strength, lsd, and better ratio. The Chevy would pull a lot taller gear than the tt ratio but will have to stick with that. So I'll need the subframe as well then. Don't suppose you know if the tt hubs/bearings are different/stronger? I transplanted a Jag powerloc diff into my Cosworth subframe last time, but don't want all that hassle again if I can avoid it.

Diff and driveshafts
Want to fit a tt diff into my n/a Z. Someone on ebay got the bits, so just need to know what I need. Don't want any hicas stuff. I'm assuming the driveshafts and cv joints are stronger so I'll need those. Willthe diff and shafts fit into my back end or do I need any more bits, ie hubs and hubshafts etc. also are the back brakes much bigger on tt? Ta.

Faster than the Bugatti Veyron !!
Blimey! Quiet liked it till I saw the back end. Looks like something out of Captain Scarlet.

'94 n/a engine, wot's it worth?
Will do, thanks.

'94 n/a engine, wot's it worth?
Got a nice engine, 64,000 miles, will be coming out later in the year for my V8 transplant. Was wondering if it's worth much complete with everything, or would it be better to sell all the bits seperately? It's a fresh import and all the electrics look like new. Would make a nice swap for someone with an earlier high mileage engine. It's auto by the way. No paperwork, so have to assume the cambelt hasn't been done.

6ltr v8 z32 convertion
Clutch booster? Sounds interesting. my chevy clutch was veeery heavy. I used land rover cylinders. Is it worth finding a tt clutch setup nowdays. The posts in the past on this topic seem to suggest all the 2nd hand ones leak and new ones are £££££'s Manta, is your clutch heavy? presume you're using the supra cylinder?

Hello, can I go on the list please

this is just too silly!!
Blimey, that bloke standing there must be a nutcase, I'd want at least 1/2" of steel plate between me and that thing.

every one keeps racing me in my zed
Had my V8 Granada for 6 years and had more races in my zed in the last 3 weeks than all the time in the Granny. Trouble is it's a n/a auto so most people beat me. Just biding my time tho'.

injectors noisy
Try one of those cheapo stethescope things from Machine Mart. They look cheap and crap but they work great. Helped me no end over the years.

Emerald ecu
Yes I must say I'd really like to meet Dave Walker. Although I could map the fuel I reckon I'll take the car to him to have the timing map done as that takes ages on the road. I presume you've ordered an ecu but having trouble with delivery? 8 channel logging sounds ok, although the Holley logged 24 channels. Thanks for reply.

Emerald ecu
Anyone here using the Emerald M3DK engine management. Had the Holley Commander 950 system on my Chevy but had to sell it all to finance buying the Zed. Don't want to use the Holley one this time cos although it seemed very good, and very user friendly, it blew up after 3 months. Holley exchanged it ok, but it still cost loads in postage and import duty for the replacement. However, the best thing about it was the datalogging facility, which when using a wideband sensor, made mapping a doddle. I've been looking into the Emerald one but can't find any reference to datalogging. Any ideas? Ooh, bloody ell, footy's on! Bye!

At last!-I'm happy..
Thanks for pics, looks like a fair chunk out of the sump. You should be seeing low 20's mpg on a run as long as your cam isn't too wild. Also, when you have a bit of a sustained thrash , say 10-15 secs, keep an ear out for tappets rattling. Mine used to run out of oil, or rather pump it all up the top end, after a good caning. Ended up with a big wing sump to cure it. Also, with your sump you might find if you brake heavily and then boot it that the tappets will rattle again cos all the oil has gone up the front and the pickup has sucked a load of air in, and the tappets have compressed. The only cure is a deeper sump with a trapdoor if poss. Mine is 8" deep but no trapdoors, and it still does the braking thing. See how you go..
