Got a new telescope a few weeks ago and not had chance to really use it,

Here are a few pics taken from the telescope.

They are not very good at the moment because I have not learn how to use it correctly and I need more practice, and darker skys wink.gif They will be getting better in detail and is size when I get used to it and get it set up better. Hope you like.

Stuart, I'm also very interested in astronomy, I intend to get myself a 'scope a bit later when my business takes off. I do have a couple of photos of that comet that came close to Earth a few years ago (I'll have to scan them in and put them in my rides section later).

Can you tell me what 'scope you are using as I was considering getting a Meade reflector (probably around 8-10 inch size).

I think the moon shot is quite good, I don't think you have a focus problem more likely exposure time and apeture setting on your camera?. The lens's you use will also make a big difference. Dont use Barlow types as these can give poor performance especially for photography. Always invest in a 'good' quality lens if you are keen on taking shots of the night sky.

Theres a shop in London called Telescope house or something, if your interested I'll post their number here. The shop is run by 'experts' and they certainly know what they are talking about!!.

Hi Rockstar,

I have a Meade LX 90 EMC. http://www.meade.com/catalog/lx/lx90.html

Its an 8inch scope, but I know that they are changing it next month. They are putting a special coating on the mirrors which make them 12% more efficent or something. We got ours at a cheaper price becuase it people are waiting for the new one. But if you I save a few hundred quid I'm not bothered.

Only got a 24.5mm eye piece with it which with my telescope makes it 77 magnification. They are also doing a special offer for this month only because its Meade's 25th anniversary or something like that. 6 Meade eyepieces for £99 in a special carry case. If you bought them seporatly it would cost over £250.

We also have the computer hand set for the telescope, which really is a must, especially for an amature like me who knows little about the starts. You line it up to the pole, it moved to where it thinks a start would be like, Alioth, you fine tune it, it finds another one, you fine tune it and your away. You can use the hand set to select anything from Planets, Galaxies, Satalites, Comets, Asteroides etc. the list is huge. Select what you want, press enter and the telescope moves to it, and 99% of the time its bang in the middle of the eye piece, and it also tracks the it for you, so it doesnt wander out of site. biggrin.gif

Ask if you want to know any more.

I have seen it before with an older less powerful telescope. At the moment it doesnt come up untill 3am and then its nearly 4am when its high enough.

This is really strange when you first see it. With my old telescope I would never have seen it because you cant really see it with the naked eye.

You can see this through the telescope but some times you need a good camera to get exposures of 5-10mins some 1hour and you get really really good pictures. The ones I took where only of a few seconds exposure.

Having a telescope is like the Z. You are always buying stuff to make it better. My dads credit card is starting to feel the strain I think now. biggrin.gif

Here are some other pics taken by amature astonimers.
