I didn't think the 300zx needed an emissions test.

You could just pull a vaccum pipe off the back right of the balance bar, that will lower it slightly ;)

unless your cars younger than a 95 model it should pass at 3.5% co,3.5% is the max allowed, sounds like your tester might be testing your car to wrong limits , a pre 1995 z gets tested to older limits and not a cat test.

It doesent seem high due to the fact it hasent been used for over a year you need to give a good blow out and make sure you cane it before re-test! should sort the prob out? most cars fail emission test being stood for a while.

as ronnie5 says give it a good run that should help a lot, did battery go flat or did you disconnect it while car was off road if so its probably reset ecu and it will need a good run for ecu to sort itself out, also petrol can go off if left to sit too long,if thatsthe case then a good fill of v max and a good injector cleaner will probably sort it, coud still be other things though and a properly running z should be able to pass a cat test even though it doesnt need to for mot.

If he has not got an MoT, it would be a bit dicey taking it for a good run. I would be inclined to clean or renew the plugs and change the oil and filter. also give the air filter(s) a spring clean

yes mate its a bit of a catch 22, no tax or test. suppose i could go the long way round to MOT. Tankyou all for putting my mind a rest anyway as i doesnt sound too bad anymore.

You are allowed to drive to the test garage without tax or MOT. As long as you havea test booked. So just take the very long route ther e:)

They covered this on my testers course.According to Vosa and the law you are only allowed to and from the test and by the shortest route possible .The guy that ran the course said you shouldnt even stop at the shops on route or anything similar FFS !!

jimmers right most direct route to and from test station, but yo can book it in at any test station in the country.

and you can still get done for not displaying a valid excise license.
