No boost

Hi there, new on here, have owned a z for about 2 and half year now, with pretty much nought going wrong with it, other then the usual like clutch and pads etc.

What happened is, while driving about 40ish, i noticed I wernt getting any boost all of a sudden, just goes to 0 or a tiny amount past if I push it, you know what I mean.

Anyway it got worse, it started running on like what seemed like 4 cilinders. Then later tried to start it later in the eve and it wouldnt start. I thought maybe it was the PTU.

Rang up zedworld and they were very helpfull, and ran a couple of checks while on the phone to them, and in the end they said it sounded like it was that too. So I got a second hand one of them in the post next day, brilliant fast post and it started.

Still no boost! though, but is running nice. Dont seem to be any air leak noise anywhere. Or anything that stands out.

I dont want to keep ringing zedword up and pestering them, as there a bit far away from where i live to even take my car to them for a look.

Please any ideas

Hi Sara, glad the ptu sorted the starting out, and do not worry about calling for help.

Sadly unless you have one big boost leak ( doubtful) it sounds more like one of your turbo`s has seized.Although you have two turbo`s if one is seized all the boost from the operating one back feeds down the non functioning one, this is because the inlet plenum is connected by the black balancer bar at the rear.

Disconnect the air flow meter, then remove one turbo pipe at the side and start the engine, rev it and see if you can feel any air pressure, then replace the pipe and repeat the proccedure for the other side that way you can identify which turbo has failed.

Hope that helps

Hi there, hay thanks jeff, top bloke, didnt want to keep ringing, you were busy when I rang back to thank you about the ptu. taking a pipe of one of the turbos, is this resonably easy? as there is pretty hard place to get to.

Thanks for helping

Hi sara, if you can let me know your e-mail (call or mail me tomorrow ) and I will put togther more detailed instructions how to check the turbo`s and add some photos of which pipes etc, and yes its reasonable easy, the pipes to remove are at the top not the real lower ones.

ok thanks, ill ring you tomorrow at work if your there, as i dont know how to send a private message, to give you my email for the pics and help ta

you been dead helpfull and I hope to get my car back to life soon, as it really gutles the moment! bummer

Just so you know Sara, IF one of the turbo`s is dead the engine has to be removed to replace it, but it`s a good time to undertake other small jobs that are difficult when the engine is in, and yes I am in work tomorrow.
