Need advice on selling

Sorry guys,`I hate to do it, but I am moving back to the US. So its time to sell the Zed.

Ive never sold a car in the UK before. How does it work?

Ok being a little more specific:

1. Where are the best places to advertise, Auto Trader, Loot, etc

2. What about insurance and test drives? My policy is named drivers only?

3. Is all I have to do to complete a sale to sign the back of that DVLA document?

4. Do I have to pay any taxes on the sale?

Thanks

1. Yes autotrader, loot, local news papers.

2. Insurance is down to the other person. If they have Fully Comp. insurance and usual over 25 their insurance policy says they can drive other cars third party only. Meaning they crash they are covered for other peoples property but not the car they are driving.

3. I think its just the red or green bit of the document that you take off and send off. The rest is down to the new owenr

4. No, no tax unless you make a profit on the car, and even then if its just one car there is no way in the world of the governemt of knowing. So you are safe there.

Ok so what do other people do about test drives. If the potential purchaser's insurance does not cover damage to your car, do you allow them to test drive?

All you can really do "to be safe" iss just yourself drive...but do what the potential buyer wants you too....eg boot it etc etc

the problem is, who would buy a car that the seller would not let you drive - I certainly wouldn't. I think it's just a risk you'll have to take.

Good luck going home and for the future.

As for the car, do not risk anyone who is not insured test driving your car. You are bound to get the wannabee's or if only's who will come for a look to see if they can get a test drive. And if they wrap it around a lamp post what then?.

Be careful of who is in the car with you also.

I hope you get a decent puchaser who will love the car.
