Is it just me or is cleaning alloy wheels a pain. I have the orig 16" alloys and they seem to have a pitted surface - just right for brake dust to stick in!

I have tried scrubbing with a standard car brush - it gets the recent stuff off mainly but the old black marks that were on when i bought the car are still there.

Has anyone managed to get it off or is it a lost cause?? I am thinking maybe a toothbrush and some liquid - perhaps white spirit??

Get yourself some Wonder Wheels cleaner or similar from Halfords it's got acid etc in it and does the job.

Might be worth testing a small patch on a hidden part of the wheel as these type of cleaner are not suitable for some alloys - not sure about the stock Z wheels as I've never had them.

Wonder Wheels works fantastically on Z wheels, mine came up spotless.

Of course like most cleaners it probably takes a layer of laquer off by being an acid.

I found Fairy liquid also got mine pretty clean (just with a car sponge).

Wonder Wheels is great but it makes cleaning the wheels twice as difficult the next time. You can put a very heavy coating of wax on them afterwards which helps, I got mine powder coated in silver, which makes cleaning a doddle.

A valeter suggested to use wonder wheels once to get them good them use glass cleaner to leave a coating.

Z first and anything else is secondary!
