Is it just me or is anyone else finding that the technical forum these days is funnier than the general forum ?

I am NOT having a dig at those new to Z ownership asking questions which others might see as obvious (although one person should recently have acquired a fairly red face...). It's more the 'quality' of some of the advice given.

I'm not interested in naming names but how about everyone puts their unproven theories onto this thread along with all the technical gems which they heard from a fat bloke down the pub. Then we can take them as read and not post useless stuff onto the technical forum which might lead to someone creating a bigger problem than they started with.

I'll start with the following which are nearly all bits of advice I've heard down the pub ...

1) Removing your air filter is a safe mod and will improve performance

2) You can add an extra injector to the plenum and open it with a switch on the dash to improve power (yes, I know someone who believed it and tried it)

3) If you're air con isn't working, check for blockages in your intercooler

4) 4 pot calipers are crap - they weigh twice as much as 2 pots

5) If you put a sub in your car facing backwards, it will make a small improvement to the car's performance due to the pushing of the air backwards (Newton's theory proves it. You may not be able to notice it the difference though as it is marginal.

Actually, putting injectors in the plenum has been done and does work but it's not the easiest method to setup/control...

The only way it could work would be if insufficient fuel was being provided in the first place. If the setup is OK to start with then more fuel can only work if you're giving it more air to match it.

The RS Turbo which I saw it fitted on didn't have that extra air. Hence a lovely cloud of black smoke accompanied by a stall !

I've seen it done on a Z on a site somewhere.

Instead of fitting bigger injectors to increase the fuel supply a couple of extra ones were fitted before the throttle bodies. I think they were wired up to come on under full throttle if I remember rightly.

Extra injectors is a pretty common way of cheaply getting round the fueling issue.

It is a bit crap though as it doens't give equal mix to all cyls.

You can buy proper controllers for them, same sort of thing you use for water injection, or if your a proper cheap skate you can hook up a pressure switch in the boost pipes to switch the 7th injector on. Not advisable.

TBH I'd just spend the cash and get some proper bigger injectors and an ECU to suit, esp considering how much of a tosser and expense Zed engines are to rebuild.

excuse me mr HAIRY BUT WHO EXACTLY DO you think you are mentioning speedholes on here like they are just a simple upgrade. frown.gif

Only and i stress only people who actually knwo what they are doign can create the speedhole 712 series.
