But the legal criteria, as set by the EU, are the EU symbol with either EU or national letters under it. e.g GB.

 

That hasn't changed since we adopted the Euro style plates.

It's just like fonts, spacing, plate size etc etc etc.

Most people do know these things that but just choose to 'forget' them.

 

At least you don't need the stickers on your car now if you go abroad.

Well thats different, I thought the only legal ones were english, scottish and welsh etc. I'm sure I read that on the dvla site too.

 

Edit: They were trying to make it legal but failed.

ok, fair enough. Still does'nt make sense though. The Laws on plates are there for Number plate recognition. I fail to see what difference a symbol makes.
