how old does a car have to be to be exempt from road tax?

25 years isnt it?

if so then in 5 years my Z will be old enough to be tax exempt! thats actually quite a sobering thought

no used to be 25 years but as usual gov changed it and its now only cars registered before a certain date dont remember date though.

no, its cars older than Jan 1st 1973.

 

The Rolling 25yr rule was dropped in 1998

knew it was early 70's wasnt sure what year tho

rule is that it has to have been MANUFACTURED prior to 1/1/1973- could be reg'd later but if you can prove manufacture date then it's free of road tax.

BTW - abolition of 25 year rule was one of first things done by Labour after 1997 election!!
