Hi All,

I know this is not a Z problem but it's in my Z so that counts I reckon :D

I have a flip-front Kenwood head unit and it's playing up. When I start the car it goes to the normal play position and then it lights up in several different colours but no sound. It then opens as if you were going to insert a tape or remove the faceplate and just stays there.

Anyone know about these things?.

Cheers.

CT.

I had a Kenwood mask stereo afew years ago which started to play up, similar to yours apart from mine either wouldnt open or wouldnt close properly. It turned out to be the ribbon.

These can apparently be bought of ebay. I didnt repair mine though as I sold it and the new owner repaired it.

I had the same problem and it is the ribbon that goes from the back of the face plate carrier into the head unit. Over time the ribbon flexes backwards and forwards and fatigues causing the ribbon to fracture. I bought one from ebay and fitted it myself, bit of a fiddly job to do but only cost about £15 for the ribbon. The hardest part is de-soldering and re-soldering the new one on. Take your time and it will probably only take about an our.
