been a member for a very long while. Used recovery a number of times. Always very efficient and helpful.

Would i be able to get them to recover a car, and instead of me going with them on the journey, get a flight/train home instead ?

as i dont fancy sitting with the RAC driver for a 350 mile drive home :headvswal

don't see why not. Ive broken down, arranged recovery, left my keys and had them pick up the car and recover it to a garage near me at their convenience. But I suspect there's more to your question than meets the eye?

I was looking at a 300 with a broken auto box :wack:

Was just curious about how to get it recovered by the rac as i have nationwide recovery :hyper:

BUt was talking to a mate, he was in the same boat. Bought a range rover that was a non runner, called the rac and informed them he had broke down, but had to get a flight hoome, but the keys were left with someone, they sent someone to collect it and delivered it to his house.

So il be doing that :p

I sold a zed with a blown headgasket, and the guy came from London without any guarantee the AA would transport it. But it worked, he dragged it off my drive and onto the street and rubbed the brake discs with sand paper to get rid of the rust, fitted another battery so it lit up, and then proceeded to claim he broke down! It worked they came and transported it all the way back to London, lol.

Yes......

......if you have "onward travel" included in your cover. If your car cannot be repaired at the roadside, you have the car transported to where you like and get the choice of overnight accomodation, train fare or hire car for 48 hours.

My old SLK broke down in Cornwall (260 miles from home) last year, the RAC transported the car to my local MB dealers the next working day (it was Saturday) and gave me a brand new Toyota Avensis to drive home in. They even picked the Avensis up at my convenience!

Top service IMO:bow:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

hmm, what about calling them, and telling them you have broken down, but you have to go home before they can collect. Would they collect if your not there ?

I dont mind travelling down, its a tenner for flights to stanstead, and im sure it wont cost too much to travel to hornuchurch, its just travelling back that would be boring :duffer:

I Have done this before.....drive the car a few miles away from where you bought it and park somewhere public (pub, supermarket, train station..etc). It sounds like the car you got had drive in 1st and 2nd, and loses 3rd gear....typical autobox problem.

Dont tell them you just bought it...they are wise to it, and have rules regarding distance you have to have travelled from purchase...etc

Just say it broke down, autobox issues and your going to make own way home, Wait with the car till they arrive and take it away...they will need to see membership card and you have to sign papers..etc anyway

If its a long distance they prefer that anyway as they will put it on a relay service, and gets swapped over between different recovery trucks on the way.

just be aware that it must be registered in your name, taxed, insured and mot'd otherwise they won't do it. The 'old days' have gone.

Road legal (tax, ins, mot) yes...but not registered in your name. Breakdown recoveries are on the Person, not the car.

excellent, looks like il be doing that then

The car is taxed and mot'd, and the insurace will be getting purchased a few days before i go to pick it up, so will be fine, and then i can get a flight back home

I really cant wait to get it now, there will be goodies added for xmas, FMIC, full exhaust, suspension and alloys, and if one comes up cheap a chip for it :slap:

i think so, but im getting it taken to my house first, thenonce ive sourced a box, il get it taken up to the garage ( not by the rac, a local company )
