Handbrake trick

UK car rear shocks handbrake trick?

If you pull the handbrake on to adjust the shocks, say just so that the light comes on do the rear brakes bind at all?

Featured Replies

Wire it to an illuminated button next to the clock, 1/2 hour job.

Nice one will do smile.gif

whats the handbrake trick?

Handbrake trick =,

On UK cars the rear dampers are electronicly adjustable, at stop or moving, by lifting the h/brake the first special click. Unless you have your cable to the rear clasps too tight, no harm will be done. Its far easier to re-wire the plunger to a descreet button on the dash or console. Dont know about the other UK owners out there, but its a huge differance in handling & fun when its on :-)

ive tried it and noticed no difference, maybe im doing something wrong?

You need the ignition on then the handbrake light on sets the circuit and switches the rear shocks to hard. Apparently only on Euro TTS. Its supposed to be a diagnostic tool.

Top of rear shocks has a motorised actuator that rotates a small blade within the shocker piston rod to change the valving.

So if that information is correct, then you could manual turn the blade, and set the shocks too the harder setting.

Are the shocks for the JAP TT, and the UK TT the same???

ย

If they are then the manual adjusting will work for JAP Imports.

A summing up for you,

Camden NISSAN in MK didn't even know there was a differance in dampers UK-JAP, untill i took my old ones in a year ago! The mechanics came to the parts desk to see what i was on about, they admited they had no specification back up to tell them otherwise!

Now they know & even asked to keep an old one.

The actuator as Wille says is a grey round box under the plastic cover in the boot. It only turns 90' on a very small vien in the top of the inner damper rod, the actuator is a very small fit over the vien, & if some of you are noticing no differance of ride, i suggest you whip off the plastic cover & make sure the (metal bit on the damper is lined up with the plastic on actuator) putting it simply! It is very easy to missaline!!! Been there done it!!!

ย

To test the action, you will need an assistant! take both actuators off dampers - hang them in the boot - ign ON - lift h/brake both should turn 90' in a fraction of a second.

ย

The differance should be quite noticable from off to on! firm ride - to - go kart.
