j4zzo
help?? hi everyone i have recently joined this group, i own a 1990 swb manual tt producing around 350bhp so its pretty standard i think. it was imported ive had a bigger rad and intercooler fitted, refurbed turbos with 360 ball bearings which was done about a month ago. the car feels sluggish low down until i hit 5000rpm, so i am considering putting in a jwt ecu which ive been told will help give me more bhp plus improve fuel consumption coz shes running a little rich at the moment, and i can smell petrol when i start her up and the revs sit high even when warm. but someone else told me i can remap the standard ecu? is this possible? if it is shall i just remap standard ecu or go for the jwt any ideas anyone? petes21st
no you cant remap the standard ECU im afraid, but a jwt chip can be socketed onto your ecu which is basically a remap within a chip. You can also get them from a few people on this site, also you will need these if one if you want to feel any benefit from your upgrades
JeffTT
Instead of going for a "chip upgrade" you would be better advised to have what you have checked over first as it sound like you may have issues which are causing the poor performance, if you do not address these first then any upgrades will be disapointing. Some things to be checked would be ignition timing, boost leak, detonation sensor, throttle balance any other ecu codes. Any combination the above can cause lethargic acceleration, but the timing and detonation sensor/boost issues are most favourite. You may find that after sorting any possible problems you will be more than happy with the performance. Jeff TT
j4zzo
cheers thats very useful. ive been quoted £250 for a jwt chip second hand does this seem like a good deal?
Old Zed
cheers thats very useful. ive been quoted £250 for a jwt chip second hand does this seem like a good deal? Sounds expensive to me.....for secondhand. Once your ECU is socketed which is no great deal, JWT chips should not cost more than a £100. Look in the items for sale on here or contact Paul at SWZeds, he's a trader on here, I bet he would have a 2nd hand chipped ECU, but as Jeff stated, don't mess about with it until the get it checked out first.
