vijay
Hi, Anyone managed to remove their windscreen without the use of a brick? I've bought one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DRAPER-BONDED-WINDSCREEN-REMOVAL-TOOL-35098_W0QQitemZ190171694643QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190171694643&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 but it's no where near sharp enough to get through the sealant :( Vijay
PhilP
Ask a local auto glass company to come and do it for you - they charge about £30.
mac300zx
Make sure you give them instructions if you do that. I had RAC Autoglass replace my windscreen and the muppets prised the trim off and broke a few clips, despite insisting that they knew how to do it. dunk300zxtt
The 'proper' stuff is twisted brass wire with two handles. It's twisted/woven so you use a push/pull motion (one person in the car, one person outside) and cut through all the sealant. It's brass so it's soft enough not to mark the glass. No idea where you get them from tho, not got time to look ATM.
vijay
I've got some of that wire so I'll try that.

Try sharpening it on an oil stone. Or altering the angle whilst trying to cut the bond.
Slick Pete.
Hi, Anyone managed to remove their windscreen without the use of a brick? I dont use the twisted thread wire I use a single strand "sharp" steel wire. On two wooden pull handles. Same principle just pull/saw CAREFULLY. Takes a while and is surprisingly hard work. Wire on roll available in the windscreen trade:rolleyes: If you have to apy out £30 to have it removed its not really worth doing as most people on here dont want to pay much when buying one. I have that draper tool but its not the correct shape/depth for a 300ZX in my experience
vijay
well I got it out......................in about 1000 pieces!!! lol My advice is leave them alone, makes such a mess getting them out once they've broken, shards of glass everywhere and some nice slices in my fingers :(
SMW1
Oooopppps :(. A new windscreen is gonna be a lot more than £30 :(
edk83
How easy is it to fit the replacement?
vijay
lucky it was on the car I'm breaking so no major loss, just a lesson learnt :)
GUMBALL3000
We pay a local glass firm to come out and remove ours from Porsches @£25.00 a time. We used to do them ourselves, but broke/damaged 7 out of 10 on average :(
