Any of you lot in the 'institute of advanced motorists?'

If so do you get any benefits, 'cos i've heard it could knock £££'s of the insurance.

Only a few insurance compaies will give you discounts for advanced motorists and if these insurance compainies dont do performance cars very well thier is no point.

 

I inquired about it and the lessons are free, cos you just drive with other people who have passed and they give you pointers.

As I understood its between £70-£90 a test where you will be given a grade, red, silver and gold I think. You also have to take the test every year.

 

This is how I remember it. It was a few years ago.

Stuart, the only bit that was correct was the cost I did mine a few years ago and it really does help. The price you pay is for course books and the test. The rest is done by the good will of people who have already passed and gone on to do the observers test. IMO this is worth doing - it teaches you an unbelievable amount about how to get the most visibility, spot potential problems etc etc etc Using it correctly you can actually drive FASTER - while still staying safe!!!

yup i did an advanced driving course with B.M.W in south africa at kyalami. It is very much worth doing, teaches you loads of things and keeps you far more alert in situations, anyone who dismisses things like this well, errm uhhm hmmm lol.

(having seen Duff at kemble last year im not sure the course over here is very good though )

I'm in "The Institute" (or should that be an institution?). You have to pay a membership fee every year (about £15 I think) but it was definately worth doing.
