I bow to the Zed Gods and fellow Zeddies!!

Im new to this forum, Ive cut a deal on a Zed TT its a 1992 model, I hope to collect her this coming sunday, its a long way away in devon but I will bring it out of the south west into the more intense southeast lands!

Ive read as much as I can on the buying guides so hopefully will spot any issues (if Im awake enough when i eventually get there), this will be my second nissan, before I owned a RS4 Stagea which I enjoyed but sold cause of the mental fuel consumption (180miles per tank).

Anyway if there is any advice you professionals can recommend regarding the first inspection and first projects to undertake on the Zed it will all be much appreciated!

Smooth Rolling fellow Riders!

May Zed be with you!!

Hi all,

Im afraid the zed didn't work out this time for me, so I came back empty handed, but Im still on the search, I won't give up.

The one I went to see was nice, but a few things put me off, the temp gauge would not go much higher than the cold mark this was after a test drive and a run on the dual carriageway, the shroud was off the vicious fan so I presume this was for better cooling, and when I put my finger into the radiator I had some orange stuff in my finger I don't know it if needed a flush or if that was normal, it was not a mixture of oil and water, it was something else which I could not really work out, not sure if it was rust or a mixture of coolants?

The engine seemed solid same with the turbos and auto gearbox, it was a very low mileage model only 65300 the price was very good also, but I had a 300mile journey back home, I didn't want to drive without a correct water temp reading, I didn't want to end up cooking it.

Once bit of advice I need, does the 300zx TT engine gurgle subtly on accelaration this is with a standard exhaust system?

well done on walking away... very difficult! temp gauge is notoriously crap, but usually sits bang on half way... whether it's overheating or not! SEnder for the gauge is on the front water pipe - worth pulling off and cleaning - gauge would prob spring back into life!

Shroud is left on as it's a bit of a pain to refit... and we're all a bit lazy! Should actually reduce cooling, but many (myself included) have run without it no probs...

Orange will be rust - insufficient/ incorrect coolant can cause corrosion - most noticeable on the water pipes in/ out of the block but you will only see these when you swap belt or otherwise strip down the front...

Gurgleing on acceleration Not really - unless it's something to do with auto boxes... wouldn't know!

Oh, was it an import?? If so, and for any future ones, forget what mileage it's showing - esp if it's got a UK speedo in!! Very easy to clock several different ways... check for pedal wear, service stickers - main service @ 60k, worn seat bolsters etc etc... although to be honest buy on condition & service history (if any) rather than mileage - there are plenty of 100,000 + excellent cars on here... and plenty of so-called 60-odd,000 shitters too!!

Good luck!

Rich

Mine is an import

I bought it on 55k with a uk speedo in, checked through a load of old paperwork with mileage's written / printed on and it was all in kilometers, got on my trusty phone converter and all pretty much worked out correct, give or take a few miles. :)
