Just watching 'pride of britain' on tv........light goes out on sky+ box.....no bl@@dy tv!

Tested fuse....OK....tested power coming through cable....OK

Fortunately I still have my old sky box (not plus though) so connected it in place of the failed one and we can now at least watch tele, but no recording facilities etc.

Can anyone please help with what could be the fault on the 'plus' box? It's a Thomson 80Gb but I can't see a model number anywhere.

Cheers - Dave

OK, thanks.....I'll leave it until the morning and try it out again!

The disks can fail sometimes. Some models can be replaced very easily, I have done a couple.

Seconded - it's likely to be the drive. I've had a couple of mine go and a guy at Sky was kind enough to tell me the hidden menu option I needed once I'd chucked a new drive in there.

Can't remember what that was, but maybe AndyP can?

It's a long time since I fixed one of these. At the time I Googled it.

Hi Mate, Check this Link out below... You say all of the lights went off? if that's the case it could have overheated... and letting it cool for 24hrs and restarting it may fix the problem temporarily but it will probably return at some point... if there are no lights at all it's probably not the hard drive as this usually results in the box powering up but not turning on (red standby light only I think) as the box cannot boot without the HDD.

Thanks guys.........I left it 'til the following morning and tried it again but it was still dead, no lights at all.

So I've given it up as a bad job and have bought another one off eBay.....it should arrive Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks again - Dave

Fair enough mate! Just be aware that if it gets banged around it migh screw the HDD but that's easily replaced... Anyhow good luck with it!
