Hi there.... recently ive been having problems with my zed idling irratically and when your driving along and apply accelerator slightly the engine begins to die but then suddenly picks up after a short while.... but..... last night whilst driving home the car died completely and now refuses to start, its turning over fine and fuel pump is kicking in ok just not firing up. after looking round ive heard something about a PTU failiure going to check this morning but if anybody has any other ideas they'd be much appreciated, or even just confirm this PTU thing as being the problem.

Hi Bud, Yes it sounds like the ptu is the culprit, If you need another i have one available email me address in in my sig. jay

it definately seems it is the ptu, after giving it a couple of hard taps it seems to start workig again..... could it be possible that its just sticking?

More like a damaged track I'd imagine as I don't believe there's any moving parts inside to stick. Try cleaning the connectors as it could be as simple as that.

I have a working series 1 PTu for sale - £35 delivered if you need it :)

Vijay

cleaned connectors several times only seems to work when it gets a good whack or two.... what do you mean by track?

thanx

Tried that but mine looks nothing like that on the inside.... just a small rotor with a couple of contacts?? unless i've opened it on the wrong side? :(

you've not opened the PTU! it's on the driver's side - front of engine... have you taken the crank angle sensor off??

I know just realised! some idiot told me it was on the passenger side. Found it on drivers side and didnt seem to have anything wrong with it but the connections were very corroded so cleaned them all up and same with cas connector..... seems to be running fine now, just idling a bit high but can sort that out easy enough. Do you reckon it could have just been dirty connections?

It definately is the Series 1 PTU though maybe worth changing it anyway......

as I said earlier, it could be as simple as that!! My car was cutting out and turned out to be a dirty CAS connector. It's a good idea to give all the connectors a clea up now and again :)
