WINDOWS XP IS SHíTE!

I have had a legal copy of Windows XP installed on my computer for a few months now. First of all, no Java working with IE6 because of legal issues this has been fixed in the 160mb Service Pack1, but now half of web pages dont work with ACTION CANCELED displaying where menus should be. This is not a Windows Explorer thing. I have installed Netscape and Opera to try and fix it, and it still shows ACTION CANCELED in the same places.

2nd I couldnt install the IE6 patch becuase I get an error every time I tried to run it.

EVERY game I have drops to the desk top after about 20mins, even though I have certified drivers for all the major hardware, Motherboads, USB, Graphics,Sound etc.

On add remove programs in control pannel, I am faced with thousands of patched installed for windows.

I cant update drivers to an older version. It just wont allow it. I have to uninstall the hardware, delete the drivers and delete the relivant ini file in the windows drivers directory.

My DVD player on my computer now keeps jumping and missing a few frames and I get green patches on the screen at times too.

When I put a CD in it doesnt update my computer to show this. Whats strange is, my computer shows nothing in drive E: even though there is a CD called "downloads" in I take it out close the CD draw and it shows up on screen with a CD called "Downloads" on. But no matter what CD I put in after that it still things is the first CD I put in. This means that with some CD's I have to reboot before it will work correctly.

It freezes on boot up sometimes. Doesnt shut down sometimes. For no reason my HDD will just start going mad for about 5 mins, even though I have the virus checker off and I am not defraging or scheduled anything to work. This usually makes my computer very very slow untill its finished.

Thier seems to be a critcal update every week. Win2000 only had critical ones once a month or so once you are up to date.

It was a waste of £70. Its a peice of shit. I install critial updates, which then cause my computer to crash. Whats all that about.

When I have time I am backing up and going back to Win2000.

People, if you are thinking about going to XP dont. Waste of money and effort.

also a load of my old games dont work, good job i dont miss em(pacman+space invaders)now thats showing my age

Anyone remember D.R DOS?

NetWare 2.2 ?

WordPerfect DOS

Lotus 123 DOS

MDA/CGA/EGA Monitors - every time you went to swap one you found out the bloody machine had the wrong graphics card in LOL

Fixing PC's seemed complicated at the time but usually involved opening the case and pushing chips back into sockets then re-copying the DOS files back on because the user had deleted half of em.

I must be getting old.

Yes I remember all that and I aint old and many a time some chip would pop out and need pushing back in. When your computer didnt work open her up, and push untill you hear a clunk wink.gif.

And setting up the IRQ's and DMA's of cards in the computer with those dreaded jumpers.

I remember my dad going mad cos I bought a game that needed 2MB of RAM. 2MB, what the hell do you need all that for wink.gif The game was about 3mb uninstalled and that was on a 40mb HDD. biggrin.gif

These young whippersnappers don't know they're born do they!

I think I've still got mine somewhere - built it into a new case an' all.

OK boys (making the bid for the BOF of the day) - I used to punch cards in Fortran for the prog to go off to Southampton Uni to be compiled and run and then sent back a week later usually with fatal error somewhere in the output.

Anyone here know Alan Turing? biggrin.gif
