My son left his car on an incline with handbrake on (not in gear, however) and after approx 30 mins the car rolled 20 yards or so into a tree ( proper tree, not a sapling).

Front of car is a mess - one headlight, one wing, bonnet, entire front of car & the cross member behind front bumper is pushed in in the shape of the tree.

the car runs, no fluids lost & doors open & close without difficulty. Car is 53 reg 1.4 megane value 3 to 31/2 k?

Repairs likely to me min of 2K I guess -could be higher.

a friend of his apparently put in aclaim for a similar occurence (obviously another plonker) and his claim was rejected as the handbrake cable hadn't snapped!! Presumably his insurers summised he had simply been careless & not applied the handbrake.

Has anyone any advice on this please?

I know Corsas had a handbrake problem but never a Renault Megane. Just did a google search and there was a few others with the same problem
