Doing about a ton and any slight pressure on the brakes makes the steering wheel shake/judder and doesn't give me much confidence that the car has great stopping power at that speed.

At lower speeds, i.e. 50-60, I'm barely able to notice it and it brakes great. Otherwise, the tracking and balancing are good, normal breaking is good with brand new front discs and pads.

Do you think I need one or both of the following?

E.S. Front Steering Rack Bushes @ £10+vat

Tension rod bushes @ £125+vat

Obviously a big difference in price...;)

Do you know if they are fairly easy to fit? I mean, would either be a big job?

Many thanks...

Now that looks more like it, thanks. Looks like something I can do myself too, assuming no special tools needed.

Had my local mechanic do mine charged me about £40 as I remember. Many people poly bush as an upgrade. mine were shot when I got the car so bought the whiteline ones deffo improved on what I had

in for a penny worth doing the both perhaps while it's in the garage. I don't know much about cars mine came up on routine service.

Get the front in the air and take a look at the tension bushes, they are gel filled and will leak when they have failed, but general condition wether leaking or not will point to an issue with them.

as for the Steering rack bushes, have somebody shake steering wheel left and right while you check for movement of the steering rack.

No need to fit adjustable tension rod arms which I guess is where you got the £125 quote from, unless your looking at lowering the car in which case you need them along with Adjustable upper arms to solve alignment issues. Just get the Tension rod Polybushes for about £30 as 8ace says, if your stock ones need replacing.

Good advice thanks, no plans to lower it. Will stick her on ramps and have a look see then. If the shuddering is not rack related though, what else could it be?

Most common reasons are Worn tension rod bushes or Warped Discs.

I'd say warped discs if it only happens at high speed and is less noticable at lower speed?

If you have low quality pads, when they get hot, as in at high speed, they can cause juddering. Sometimes a new and better pad can be the cure.

Been there done that.

Ok, so a bit more on this. I had new tyres put on the front, the discs and pads were replaced and whilst it made the vibration less significant, it's still significant as soon as she gets to 80mph. Now, when the car gets to 140 (obviousy not me driving) she suffer from rear wind noise (obviously not me). Upon application of the brakes, instant lane swerve!

Does that still sound like a steering rack issue? I think it's about time that I got it sorted out...

Also, does anyone know whether the 300zx should have inner wheel arches at the rear? If so, how can I get some?!

Many thanks.
