Have done a search and it seems a few others have had this problem, but unable to find out what cured it. If anyone has any idea of what is wrong please help. Thanks.

The air con/ wipers / clock supply is fed from position one of the key so either the ignition switch is faulty or the relay that energises that part of the fusebox ( by the accelerator pedal ) has failed. (heard that water ingress in the back of the fuse box can cause this)

Check the fuse box supply, removal and replacement is a pain but the problem is almost certainly there.

Spot on Robertz, it appears to be the relay on bottom right as you look at the fuse board, swapped with the other relay on back of fuse board and every thing worked O.K. Now need to get a relay from somewhere, went to scrappy but nothing matched the serial No on the side of the relay I have.

Thanks for your help.

I have this same problem - pulled out the fusebox from the drivers side footwell and disconnected all the plugs. when you look up behind where the fusebox is located on my car i can see a clear plastic hose hanging down that is dripping water directly on to the wires that run into the back of the fuse box. It has corroded plenty of terminals on the front and back of the fuse box. I suspect this hose runs down inside the a pillar along the side of the windscreen drains water from the roof or from the bottom of the windscreen. it looks like the lower half of this hose has become disconnected (and disappeared) i presume it should drain out into the front wheel arch area... will update if / when i find a way to stop the leak.

Its the drain pipe from the T top, also another one, if your rear screen demister fails to work and you have replaced the fuse, make sure you check where you replaced the fuse. i had this issue when i first got mine, traced it back to someone replacing the fuse but putting it in the empty slot next to where it should be. once moved to the correct location, rear screen demister working again.

I had to replace the fusebox as it was badly corroded and now all seems to be working ok, except my indicators and electric windows which are both completely dead on both sides (hazard lights work ok though) - have you any suggestions what to check?

here are some pictures showing how i fixed the drain on mine... (click on pics for more info)
