Morning guys,

I brought another painter round to look at my car last night (a mates brothers mate who just gave his opinion and not in the position to do the work so is unbiased). He was shocked any bodyshop would turn my car out as a finished job :( After a lot of swear words he said they'd flattened the hell out of most of the car and most of the marks would come out if they had actually polished it properly. The bonnet had not been really flattened and the pin holes would have come out with a good go with the mop. There are marks that are in the paint and would have to be sprayed again. The T tops are not the same colour, both doors have not been laquered on the underneaths, no laquer where the door hinges are, no laquer on the bonnet hinges, various small nicks in the bodywork/bumpers that should have been stoppered at the primer stage, runs in the door mirrors, runs in the door sills, there are dents in the roof panels that are to the front and back of the T rooves, the boot has to be resprayed as there are about 10 places they should have stoppered, the bonnet has a scrape on the edge nearest the windscreen that is down to the basecoat. Around the wheel arches, they'd flattened back and taken the edge off the paint. And lets not forget the fact that a D.A has gone across the bottom of my screen and he doesn't think will polish out and will possibly need a new screen

So in his opinion the only way of sorting my car out properly is a complete respray which I kinda already knew :( Once again I have the problem of my car not being in a drivable position to get to any bodyshops for quotes. What recommedations for bodyshops do people have? They have to be capable of spraying a 2 stage pearl.

Cheers

FFS mate I am sorry to hear this TBH it sounds like mine came out better. There are a few flaws in mine but as soon as we have the time its going back in for a finish off.

I aint trying to rub it in you probably know that aint like me but it does sound like you have been ripped off.

Why cant people just do what they are paid to do? :smash:

What a nightmare I hope you get it sorted soon mate. Ill ask my sprayer if he has any experience with pearls

Mate, you're right which is exactly why I do what ever I can myself. They haven't actually been paid any of the 4.5k by the first garage yet and I've said they'd be mad to pay them but that's there problem if they do. What I'm hoping to do is find another bodyshop who can sort my car out and then the first garage pay them out of the 4.5k that the second garage's money and then the second garage get the remaining of the 4.5k.

Oh, there's also sinkage in the paint in places :(

KrysMayo used a place in Harlow that did a good job for him. I can't remember the name but try a search of his posts.

Knight Racer

Unit 38 Tanners Drive

Blakelands

Milton Keynes

MK14 5BW

They come very highly recommended and I know they are proper. They are an official trader on http://www.skylineowners.com They will put any paint on any car.

EDIT: If this link works check this out mate: http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?p=667805

Good God Vijay :( You don't have much luck do you?

It makes no sense to me for bodyshops to do a piss poor job, they either don't get payment OR they get to do the whole job again so it costs them twice as much.

They must be really thick or something.

Anyway, stand your ground. As said before £4.5k would buy you an imacculate paintjob.

They have no excuses.

Spoke to Knight Racer and was a little confused. They said a respray in same colour would be £1800 but if I wanted a showroom finsih it would be 3-3.5k. He said they have to mop the car over to get that finish but can someone really justify and extra £12-1700 for mopping a car:wack:

They did my mates Skyline. It had the carbon wings and bonnet side skirts all supplied and fitted and the rest of the car done in black for £4-5K it looked the absolute nuts mate. I am not sure what they mean but I think they mean the standard finish is very good but the showroom is beyond anything you could possibly imagine. I went to their place in MK and he has a NSX and it obviously had the best finish and my god that was like a sheet of glass had been moulded over the paint. Finishing IMO is the hard bit. So maybe this is what he is talking about. If you can get up to he's place he will show you the difference and I think the standard finish is great.

e&a coachworks whom i mentioned to you before... theyre not far from you either

Spoke to Scott at Custom Exotics (place in Harlow) and seems like a decent guy. Thing that's still confusing the hell out of me is the finishes. In his opinion getting a mirror finish on a pearl white car is pretty pointless as it won't really show through. His ballpark figure without seeing the car is around the 3.5k for a gun finish and polish. But the place is Milton Keynes said about £1800 for that and were happy to quote upwards of 3k for the mirror finish knowing the colour. I'm so confused and fed up with this car, didn't think getting a car resprayed could be such a headache :(

Really sad to hear this is still not sorted mate.

Any thoughts on who you may go with yet ?. Have you visited any of the places to see thier finished article i.e. customers car finished, rather than a show car which they would have put 110% effort into just to get custom ?.

Scott done mine for me and also done a mates skyline paint finish was fantastic, i've know scott since college, they turned my car around in just two weeks, that fitting all the body kit and paint, only prob is with a pearl it's a 3 stage paint job, if you get it wrong by a crap body place it will show, the paint for mine alone was over £350

scotts also a bit of a perfectionist, i've seen him match a pearl sunburnt orange corvett bonnet, and i couldn't tell the difference

I do like the sound of Scott, he uses a motto of only accepting work as if it was his own car, no matter the car or job which is something I work by. Only thing in my mind is the difference in prices, does confuse me how 2 bodyshops who both have good reps can be so different in price...............................

The 2 garages who've dealt with my car are having a meeting to talk about my car so I'll wait to see the outcome. All I know is how ever fed up I am, I won't let this just go till I'm happy!!!!

The 2 garages had a meeting today and I've got to meet witht he original garage tomorrow. If the garage who just painted my car want another chance to do it, do I have a right to refuse? My worry is if it goes to court, they could turn that on me and say I never gave them a chance to put things right even though when I pointed things out they called me fussy

I woul doffer them another chance. Make a point of saying that it needs to be perfect, not close with a few minor issue, but 100% spot on to your very high standards.

If they then say it will never be 100%, then they blew thier chance.

If they are going to get a second chance, make sure you have a documented list of faults that they agree to fix. Would also be useful having an independent expert to review the final result.

That's the thing, there's no much they can repair without doing a full respray. The list of bits I'm not happy with would be shorter if I just listed the bits that are OK - the rear bumper is about it!!! lol The mirrors have runs, the headlight panel has runs and sinkage, the T roofs are a different shade. Unless they agree to a full respray, I'm not having it ;)

Is a straight forward refund not on the cards Vijay ? your not happy and am sure independants would say it's crap, so cash back is the only way.

If it's this bad now, think about 6 months down the line so is it worth them doing it again, should you trust em ? err no!

Learn from my mistake fella, the dick who done mine re done things again and a few months later, i could cry. So 4K for the first one and now 2.5K to re do it in another garage this winter, highly embarassing and ****ing annoying!

I guess I could bring that up but it would cost more to put from scratch than what I paid cos they made such a mess of everything :(

What happened to yours months down the line??

Least if yer get the cash back, you gotta be back to square one and at 4K at the right place, your gonna get a good job ( says the bloke who paid 4K for a bag o shite, lol)

Suffering with shrinkage, cracks and a few small bits of rust where i never had rust before, chipped black paint showing white underneath when it should have been protected and after an independant inspection, it showed the paint thickness is crap and laquer missing in places or just very thin!

Mines gotta be done completly from scratch again.

Good luck

Sorry to hear that and thanks for worrying me even more!!! lol When I spoke to Scott today, he did tell me he couldn't warrant the work unless he did a full strip and respray which I'm hoping may end up being done, so getting a refund could be a sensible option ;)

Hope you gets yours sorted too.

I think so mate, cash back and then jobs a goodun then and yep mine will get sorted cos am going somewhere i know i can friggin trust, this time :D

Right, spoke to my mate and the garage who painted my car will only repaint the bonnet and boot lid and won't discuss doing the car again. What really winds me up is they won'd even go and look at the car which is 20 minutes away, they said bring the car to them knowing full well my mate has been ill for the last 5 months and has oinly been able to walk for the past week and that my car isn't drivable so has to be transported. And they expect to be paid - not if I can help it cos they haven't done a proper job and won't sort it.

Got Scott from Custom Exotics comeing to look at it hopefully this week and talked to Knight Racer earlier who will get back to me with price. It might need to be re-stripped back to bare metal but at least it will be in capable hands this time.........................I hope! lol
