hi mate got hold of the speedo people and they sent a blown up pic which i copied brilliantly but now the speedo doesnt work ! guess ill have to put in a uk clock..is that just a swap do you know?

Its not forced to be a straight swap for a UK clock because the connectors on the back of the cluster change thru the ages of the car.

If you get a UK cluster, you might be lucky and it fit straight in, but if not you can just fit the speedo section of the cluster into your Jap spec unit and all will be OK!

That is what I had to do! To remove the speedo portion, you have to remove the 7 screws (boost gauge attached to speedo portion) from the back of the cluster.

changing to uk clocks alone, will not delimit or convert to mph as the chip is in the ecu.

The convertor box tricks the ecu into thinking the car is going slower than it actually is. Also 30kph will then read as 30mph with the box installed.

If you want to fit a uk clock so that it says mph, thats fine, but you will have to still fit the convertor box or get your ecu socketed and rechipped.

If you search for delimiter in the search box in the tool bar, there are several posts about it.

hi mate and thanks for your help....with the rewire which i am convinced i have done correctly i also changed the front face of the speedo to a mph face .however i obviously had to take the needle off and that i think is where my problem lies when i pulled the needle off it came out from the pin shaft not just the top orange indicator could this be my problem? sorry if i appear stupid but how else can you change the face?...again many thanks

Hi Bud

Taking the needle off is always the last resort, as if you dont get off correctly first time or back on, it will never be the same again.

You can change the whole speedo clock by removing the 4 screws on the back of the dash pod and if you have a boost gauge, remove also the 4 screws that hold that in, disconnect the small white connector from the rear of the boost gauge and the whole unit will come out. Obviously you will need to take the front cover off the dash pod.

There are some faces available that you dont need to take the needle off, they slide over the needle and sit over the top of the old face.

I beg to differ groover, although changing the clock to a UK spec will not remove the top speed limit as you said, it will though read correctly in MPH, both of my zeds are imports with jap ecu and I fitted both with UK clocks and both read mph very acurately

(checked against sat nav) but retain the top speed limit.

Incidently the speed sensor pulse cable colour is yellow / green, but beware there are two this colour at the speedo head connector, it is the one nearest the centre of the plug.

Hi Rob, you can beg to differ all you like, but if you read his post, he only changed the face, and not the whole clock. If you change the whole clock it will read in mph cos it already has the correct resistor on the board to do so. If it didnt read like that in my post then my apologies.

I would recomend fitting UK clocks. Just get a set the same series as your car (the majority of zed's being series 1 anyway, so its not a problem getting the correc ones).

UK clocks will Display in MPH, and show your Turbo and Oil presssure gauges in PSI. It will also mean that the Hicas and Pas works correctly, which they dont with a convertor.

Plus UK clocks are better looking IMO.
