Any near Maidenhead, Berkshire who can help with Rear Fog Lights?

Just back from the MOT and told that the car does not have rear fog lights. 1994/M. I was convinced it already had working front as well as rear fogs and they have been working (inadvertently) when one of the front side lights was out.

If you've modified your Zed and in Berkshire and wouldn't mind helping me out then please let me know, need to get this done asap.

Many thanks.

Hi Bud

If its a jap model, then as standard it didnt have rear fog lights. There are 3 ways you can go about this 1) buy a cheap rear fog from halfrauds and fit it to get it through the MOT and then remove it after, but bear in mind it is a legal requirement to have a rear fog in this country. 2) convert your offside reverse light to become a fog by splicing into the bulb holder feed to be fed from the new fog switch, then change the bulb to either a red led, which you can also get from halfrauds or a standard red bulb. 3) convert the offside inner brake light to become a fog light.

If you need any help on any of these options i have a wiring diagram i can post up, either way you will need a seperate illuminated switch to control the fog light and you will need to run a wire to the rear of the vehicle from the switch.

If you need any further help or clarification, just ask.

Cheers

Graham

I have a white uk rear bumper with the fog lights in i was going to put on my car, also have a new chrome rear fog light switch i got from demon tweaks but i never got round to converting mine.

Oh yeah, option 4) uk rear bumper:D

Its late Graham so your forgiven:D

Oh and congrats on the new mod thingy (us mortals can't post on the other thread lol)

Wiring diagram/instructions would be great Graham - especially for the reverse light mod. I've got an import too and when I bought it the guy said he reckoned the fog light was tucked up into the bumper. When I went to check - no light... Suppose that would also explain the fuse blowing when I flicked the switch!

Anyway, I have to get it sorted for MOT, so any assistance would be appreciated :)

That's brilliant mate - thanks. It's what I suspected I needed to do, but it's good to get a bit of direction from someone with more sparky knowledge than me!

Only one thing I'm not too sure on - you say that we should splice into the live feed of the reverse light. Surely that would mean that when the car is put into reverse it would light up the red bulb? Should we be splicing in then cutting the original feed, or would that give a 'light out' indicator on the dash?

Yes, cut the original feed or as you say it will come on when you put it in reverse lol, and you will not get a light on the dash come on after cutting it.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to lose one of the reversing lights, put a red bulb in and some red plastic. Don't understand the electrics myself so asked someone to connect it to the existing front fog switch - hey presto, all done.

Why the red plastic ? Just red bulb is fine.

Doh! Because I was explaining what I wanted to some chap in the shop and he thought it would need the plastic. You are right though, it only needs a red bulb for sure.

If you get rid of the red plastic and red bulb and use a red led replacement, visually it will still look like a reversing light, as the leds are clear visually. Not important, just aesthetically speaking:)

Do you happen to know what type of bulb they are Graham? I'd like to put an LED one in mine for this very reason and want to make sure I get the right thing!

382R is the code, which is a 21w Bayonet Bulb with Straight pins in red.

Great stuff - cheers mate :)

As legrath pointed out, the bayonet fitting is the same as stop/tail lamp etc, Halfords do them in pairs, i think they are 9led bulbs.

Cheers Graham. As it happens, a mate of mine might just have some of these rattling around in his kitchen drawer - he's going to have a look for me.

Thanks again :)
